Jaguar C-X16 concept revealed in Frankfurt [videos]

Previews the 2013 XE

Jaguar has unveiled the C-X16 concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Essentially a preview of the 2013 XE, the car has an aluminum chassis and a striking appearance. Inside, the cabin looks virtually production ready and is furnished with leather, Alcantara and carbon fiber trim.

Power comes from a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 engine with 380 PS (280 kW / 375 hp) and 450 Nm (332 lb-ft) of torque. It is connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission which has an integrated electric motor that contributes an additional boost of 95 PS (70 kW / 94 hp) and 173 lb-ft (235 Nm) of torque. This enables the svelte coupe to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.4 seconds and hit a top speed of 300 km/h (186 mph).

Jaguar Opens Frankfurt Motor Show With The C-X16 Concept Car

Excitement on the eve of the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show gained momentum as the Jaguar C-X16 production concept car made its public debut at the Palais Thurn und Taxis, Frankfurt.

Tracing the Jaguar sporting lineage through the years, 50 stunning heritage vehicles drove through the city of Frankfurt including XK120's, C types, D types and E-types. Starting at the Villa Kennedy in the early afternoon, the convoy passed key locations in Frankfurt and finished at the Palais Thurn und Taxis at 16:00 where Jaguar's vision of future sports cars made its debut to the world's media.

Driving a D-type, Frank Klaas, Global Head of Communications for Jaguar Land Rover commented "What better way to start the motor show than by driving such a selection of beautiful sporting vehicles through Frankfurt, culminating with the global debut of the future of Jaguar sports cars - the C-X16."

Gorgeous looking car, the interior is awsome but I noticed that it looks a bit like an R8. BTW, what is that red botton on the steering wheel?

Very beautiful, indeed. Other than the revised front end, Jaguar did a good job of incorporating a lot of elements from it's stunning C-X 75 concept. I'm really liking what I see in this newly rejuvenized take on Jaguar. It's like their just beginning to realize they have more potential. Either that or their finally waking up from a very long coma.

That is one gorgeous beast :-) Jaguar now had retained its character after being freed from Ford stewardship

Not a line on it I don't like. But it's carrying forward design language decided upon before the acquisition by Tata. We've yet to see where the new ownership might take the styling when they start with a clean sheet of paper.

is a pretty cool car... but am I the only one who has noticed the sunglasses on the jaguar from the front logo? Why did they do that?

It's a 'Cool Cat' that's why. That shows real corporate confidence from Jaguar to reinvent the 'Growling Jag' logo for the 22nd Century. It's no longer boring; simply Cool Britannia.

This is a beautiful car, no doubt. But, where's the Jag?

The Growling Jag is back! Make no mistake, this is a production GT item to rival anything from Italy to Germany. I wonder what Jaguar will call it; E-Type perhaps? No derivative design language in sight, but unmistakably Jaguar nonetheless. Ford must be gutted seeing Land Rover and Jaguar's progress right now ever since they waved 'Tata' to both of them! Best interior yet in a Jag and no more 'retro' or 'classic' cliches; 'hi-tech' and 'futuristic' are now the norm. A Jag with a hybrid engine that can still stir the soul with raw-edged exhaust note? Welcome to the Rev-olution!

The long awaited successor of the legendary E-type is finally here - in concept form. Audi TTs, Nissan 370Zs and Porsche Caymans should be afraid.. very afraid.
