Additional AMG models expected

In an effort to increase profitability, Mercedes will reportedly offer several new high-end models.

Citing multiple sources, Automotive News says the 2013 S-Class will gain a couple of new variants. Furthermore, a CL convertible is under consideration.

On the AMG side, the success of the SLS has convinced the company there is room for additional high-performance models. The sources declined to give specifics, but our spies have already snapped pictures of the A25 AMG, ML63 AMG, GL63 AMG, and G63 / G65 AMG.

If Maybach lives, the next-gen will have a four-door convertible version.

How about a diesel CL to rival the new 6 series? Relatively straight forward to make the conversion, would cost MB next to nothing to develop and would help expand their range.

they wouldn't have to develop it surely? they'd just use the running gear from the S350 CDI. the CL isn't a 6-Series competitor in Europe tho. The CL is significantly more expensive, and whilst the 6-Series uses the 5-Series platform, the CL uses the S-Class platform. I doubt Mercedes would want their flagship coupe associated with 6-Series "riff-raff" (not that I'm implying 6-Series owners are riff-raff just that the car is a fair bit cheaper and Merc likes to think of itself as a cut above.)

About time. They need a spiritual successor to the 280SE 3.5 convertible. The ones they have now are too small and not proper 4 seaters

I think it's about time. There is a BMW 6 Coupe and Convertible, and there is a Maserati GranTurismo and GranCabrio(or GranTurismo Convertible). The CL is a rival of these cars.
