Ariel Atom catches fire in street race [video]
Engine engulfed in flames of Ariel Atom before the car even has a chance to pick up any speed
Here's a lesson in what not to wear to a race.
This Ariel Atom catches fire at the Västerås Street Racing event in Sweden. It nearly turns tragic when the engine becomes engulfed in flames even before the car can pick up any speed but thankfully the fire is quickly extinguished.
The driver doesn't seem in much of a hurry to exit the vehicle but once he stops and pulls himself out we see that he is wearing a pair of jeans.
Moral of the story: Always wear a fire-resistant race suit when racing. Simply always.

I would be more worried about the red synthetic jacket than the jeans...

Ive been to a lot of street races in my life and never have I seen a safety crew and support trailers. This is for sure an organized racing event of some sort, not a dragstrip but still.

Perhaps I should have actually read the article before I commented. Sorry, it clearly states that this was an event.
