Ssangyong Motor Company unveils rendering of the "XIV-1" premium CUV concept car

  • Design based on concepts such as "joy of travel," "setting up a new culture of driving," and "space for communication on the road."
  • Ingenious expression of ‘Robust Aesthetics Realization' being pursued by Ssangyong Motor Company.
  • The "XIV-1" premium CUV concept car is being developed as Ssangyong's strategic model for the global market.

Ssangyong Motor Company(President & CEO Lee Yoo-il; www.smotor.com) , part of the US$12.5 billion Mahindra Group, unveiled a rendering of its premium CUV concept car "XIV-1" amid much fanfare on the 29th. The car will make its debut at the 64th Frankfurt International Motor Show to be held in Germany in September.

The"XIV-1" is a premium crossover utility vehicle (CUV) concept car that was developed by Ssangyong as a strategic model for the global market. On top of offering premium performance, safety and environmental-friendliness, its design is based on concepts, such as the "joy of travel" and the "space for communication on the road" as it looks to bring about an evolution in driving culture.

The "XIV-1" is composed of the initials for "Exciting User Interface Vehicle," which represents how the means of transportation will develop amid the changing social and consumer atmospheres. It also hints at where Ssangyong's products are headed - to enable two-way communication between the vehicle and the driver through the use of mobile devices, such as smartphones, and adding to the joy of driving through an IT-based user interface.

Most of all, the "XIV-1" doubles the joy of driving thanks to its perfect proportions and use of space where agility, speed, and power coexist. The car suggests "Each One & All Together" as a new concept in interior design that allows for diverse interior settings: All seats move and turn at the behest of the passenger to satisfy their specific privacy and communication requirements.

The"XIV-1" uses the ‘B' Pillarless Coach Door Open Type and a full-glass roof, which aims to maximize the sensation of openness and symbolizes the full time online network that the car provides based on keywords, such as ‘endless communication'.

"The ‘XIV-1' focuses on realizing a future-oriented design based on our heritage, and is based on our product philosophy of ‘Robust, Specialty, and Premium," said a spokesperson for Ssangyong Motor Company. "We believe that the vehicle, created based on a simple, dynamic and strong aesthetic value, will show the supremacy of our ingenious design." he added.

INTERESTING..! looks like it is a all out open war between the two Indian Auto giants. Since TATA beat Mahindra to the Jag-Range Rover deal, they bought Korean Ssangyong and are now copying RR Evoque. Design is so similar that TATAs could actually sue them for copyright.

I must say this looks good. Rip off this, rip off that, copyright, sloppyright who bloody cares? At least ssangyong are listening to the criticisms of their ?wild? or ?original? design in the past which got them nowhere and are begining to make cars that people wants even if it rip off/inspired from the original. Besides this look-alike tactic is same way when Renault turned to Aston Martin to create the Laguna Coupe, Peugeot turned to Audi TT to create RCZ, Land Rover turning to Skoda (according to reactions of the Defender concept) the list completely endless. Regarding the Rexton replacement, this is NOT the Rexton replacement, this model is to compete with the Nissan Juke, its a B-segment car. Well despite being like a Evoque in a good way at least when this car makes it into production it should be nice to look at than the Nissan Juke or as people call it....Puke.

If you going to copy others, at least go after the best of them. Range Rover Evoque is so ugly, one wonders if the designers were on drugs or what. The contraption reminds me of the miltary gunner from the mid-section to the rear, or worse yet, a hearse vehicle.
