Honda teases the next-generation European Civic's rear fascia with a very unique feature

Honda continues to tease-out the upcoming euro-spec 2012 Civic model.

The next-generation Civic will be offered exclusively as a 5-door hatch in Europe and Honda has now released a new image now showing much of the Civic's rear end.

What we see here is a new protrusion at the rear which acts like a spoiler but is actually part of the liftgate's light cluster.

You can see the thin red lamp across the center of the hatch which probably is part of the brake lights.

A unique design feature which will likely cause an "either you love it or hate it" reaction.

First glimpse of The New Honda Civic

Honda line-up at the 2011 IAA Frankfurt Motor Show

The new Honda Civic will be launched at the 2011 IAA Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Developed specifically for the European market, the new Civic will be offered exclusively as a five-door hatchback and will compete in the C-segment. It will reach European showrooms in early 2012.

The refreshed design of the new Civic features a rear combination light that works as a spoiler. The aerodynamic design of the spoiler manages the air flowing over the top and the sides of the car; this is just one example of how the new Civic has been refined.

Nearly all the body components have been redesigned with particular focus on ride and handling, reduced CO2 emissions, interior quality, while preserving the class-leading cabin and boot space and flexible practicality.

Another highlight will be the 2012 model year of the Honda Insight, which has received a facelift - more information about this model will be provided in due course.

The exhibition of cars will be completed by the display of the CR-Z, the CR-V, the Jazz and the Accord.

the North Aamerican version always look crappy. The last gen Euro/Asia civic was sooooo much nicer. And yes, the new gen NA Civic looks like a minor refresh to the previous gen, and to make it worst........IT LOOKS WORST!!!!

Mmmm love the current civic but looks like they are keeping the same shape but altering the details that made it look so good, those lights make the rear look like a fat girl in leggings

I was worried the EU spec would look like th US spec Civic, but this appears to have a much better looking rear end.

I don't understand this sorting - European and American Version - Why not for all the world ? BMW 5 is BMW 5 everywhere !!! Why honda is not so ?

actually its not. Some brands, like BMW, might seem to be the same outwardly, but there tends to be features which are available in euro models and not NA models. Same goes for the engines... NA models get less than half of the available powertrain offerings, and this is true for Asian makes too. Don't know why, but the NA car culture seems to have a diesel allergy

You get what you pay for: US Civic starts at $15,605 (just ?9,600!) whereas the UK Civic is ?15,750 ($25,600). Same goes for the Euro Accord which is why it's branded as a premium Acura TSX in the US.

Cars are more expensive anyway in the UK. The Corvette ZR1 is around $100,000 in its homeland and around ?100,000 on our silly tax-loving island. That's almost twice as much!

Looks brilliant! That seems like another fantastic EU Civic and I think Honda should be applauded for not copying everybody else.

WAIT!? 'will be offered exclusively as a five door'!?? SO THAT MEANS NO 3 DOOR HOT HATCH TYPE R!??? HONDA YOU FAIL! :@

Yes that is disappointing but the 5-door model is responsible for the majority of sales. No 3-door Type R is a shame but Honda where hard hit in recent times so I guess being a little cautious. Cannot blame to be honest but there will be sad faces for sure. :(
