2012 Porsche 911 Convertible to get folding hardtop?
Could make hardtop convertibles more attractive
A recently discovered patent is suggesting the 2012 Porsche 911 Convertible could feature a new roof that is part hardtop and part soft top.
The odd design certainly raises some eyebrows, but the roof section would apparently be metal while the rear window area has traditional canvas. This could help to eliminate the ungainly styling that is associated with folding metal roofs, but it also defeats some of the security benefits which are inherit in that design.
Thanks for the tip Giannis!

Ha, I said it quite some time ago that spy photos of the cabriolet look like a hardtop. At this point I would be surprised if it wasn't a hardtop, with Ferrari now having two hardtop convertibles I'm sure Porsche could and would do the same.

So it's all 'canvas', but parts will the traditional soft top whereas others will be metal underneath the canvas. I guess it would improve rigidity and reduce any road and wind noise while the roof is up.

If the concept has been implemented, there would be a prospect to increase the luggage/cargo space which means a little bit more practicality.

Not in a 911 mate the luggage/cargo space is in the front engine in the back.... Is this the first time u have ever read anything about a 911?

Thanks mate for your reminder and of course it was not the first time I know about a 911. What I meant that there could be some tiny space to be utilized around that area (not necessary cargo space). Perhaps a bigger cabin.
We are seeing some creativity here, and most of it does not mean the "same old rules".

Smart these Germans...
not sure i understand the roof drawings (like what does #4 represent? - or is that a German joke - there are German jokes, aren't there?) but the car looks nice.

The way I look at the drawings, the top is nothing more than a regular softtop, but instead of having the traditional 3 layer fabric insulation, they used a 4 piece moulded piece made of unspecified material.

It would be nice if it were like VW's Eos top, not just because of the sunroof, but also its relatively few sections (for a four seater).
