Designers talk the Cadillac Ciel Concept [video]

Concept's inspiration is explained by Cadillac's own designers

Cadillac has released a new video on the Ciel Concept.

In this piece we get to see the car's designers talk about the Ciel, its inspiration and origins.

Cadillac's design director Clay Dean, along with exterior design manager Niki Smart and interior design manager Gael Buzyn, all provide their take on the elements of a car that "maintains that bold swagger that Cadillac is really know for," according to Smart.

The Ciel, which means 'sky' in French, was named to highlight Cadillac's French ancestry but also to reference the car's core inspiration - Highway 1 in California, the Golden State, where its designers say the open-top caddy was meant to be driven.

Under the bonnet of the Ciel is a twin-turbo 3.6 liter V6 with 425 bhp (317 kW / 431 PS) and 430 lb-ft (583 Nm) coupled to a hybrid transmission powering an all-wheel-drive system.

outstanding design that reminds alot the classical american cruisers. Seems very environmental for the look of a porncar

very cool, looks like an old 1970's coupe deville brought into the 21st century, but the name is pronounced just like the Acura CL (wish Acura could bring that back) but hey, whatever, this is an interesting vehicle, i'm sure there is a select group of people that would be interested in this car.

I never thought that I would say this about a Cadillac without being under the influence of car battery torture, but I would honestly buy this car! Build It. You can clearly see the 1960's and 70's influence in this vehicle, reminding me of what Cadillac once was, a luxury car company and not a rebadged Impala with leather seats (stretching the truth a little, but you get the idea).

As in more recent history, the Ocean Drive could be easily considered a "copy" of the 1997 Chrysler Phaeton Concept.. Cadillac produced automibiles similar in form to the Ciel long before either of the aforementioned models.

I could not agree more, never thought I'd be so intrigued by a Caddy. Unique, passionate, distinctly American in references. This could easily be lost if they do not stay true to this concept. Makes me kind of excited to see next 3 series competitor.

I think that twin turbo engine is the one will be used in the upcoming C63 and M3 rival

The car that puts the Caddy into Cadillac all over again! As I've posted earlier on the Ciel blogpage, a must-build car for Cadillac! Simples.

I like this concept. But I really don't like the front end for some reason. The grill doesn't match this car. But other than that I'll take one white with red with vogues

If Rolls Royce did this kind of design for the Phantom Drophead Coupe, it would be great.

Park it next to the Cien as an awesome Cadillac that'll never see production.
