2012 BMW X6 facelift shows its new 'angel eyes'
Facelifted BMW X6 is sporting new headlights with LED daytimers similar to the new 1-Series
Our intrepid spy photographers have caught up with the 2012 BMW X6 facelift for the first time as the Bavarian automaker has put a few prototypes out on the streets of Munich for testing.
The photos here show a lightly disguised 2012 X6 and we get to see those new 'angel eye' headlights with LED daytimers similar to the new 2012 1-Series which we also expect to see in the next-generation 3-Series due soon.
The rear lights are also new, and since this is an early prototype, we expect to see more spy photos with additional details soon.
This facelifted 2012 X6 will also be getting a new tri-turbo, 3.0 liter diesel unit with an output of up to 400 PS (294 kW / 395 bhp).
The 2012 BMW X6 is expected to debut sometime next spring.

Strange how BMW's recent facelifts don't seem to change the look of the car at all. They just seem to change the detailing within the lights.

it's time to move on from "angel eyes" and stop clinging to this design cue.

there is absolutely no reason to get rid of "angel eyes". they are the best, most natural looking, most assimilated daytime running lights, i bet other manufacturers wish they had come up with them first!

LOL, haters gotta hate..The angel eyes are now part of the BMW design language in case you missed it, the new 1/3/5/6/7 facelift/X3/X5 facelift/X6 facelift, they all have it or will have it. It's like telling to Apple to stop making thin laptops..

Why would they move on from angel eyes if they're as successful as they are?

Backthen a facelift means a total overhaul of a car with new generation of engines or gearboxes for better efficiency or safety, improvements of quality, new body parts or components and then they get lazier by just changing the front and rear bumpers wheel design and a steering wheel. These days it is just purely marketing by changing the headlamps to a fancy one. I mean come on let's face it. It is not a facelift but a new contact lens!

But it is a new engine. And there are new ConnectedDrive features and enhancements, too... Back then? Back when? Even the E38 LCI was mostly lights and an updated engine/DSC system, and that was back in 1998. And doesn't the brochure call them Corona Rings? I've only seen "angel eyes" referred to on the interweb. Maybe I'm taking this a bit personal, but I love the X6. I didn't at first, admittedly, but after spending some time with it, I realized it's all the benefit of the X5 without the "mommy wagon" look. That said, it definitely isn't for everyone.

which car do u refer 2 when u say ugly? i think that the x6 is the most amazing fabulous car BMW has ever designed.

agree with the ugliness, this car just disgust me more than anything, other than the 5 GT

@opmeteor420 If by successful you mean long-lived, then yes I would agree. IMO, front end of any new BMW has just become waaay to predictable. Especially in light of how much their product line up has expanded in the last 10 years.

Uptohere, don't agree. If anything, Audi has become the predictable one. When you see one coming up behind you, you never know if it is an A1, A3, A4 etc. With re facelifts, more manufacturers including BMW are updating their cars throughout their production cycles as opposed to waiting for facelifts. Love the look of the X6. Pity about it only having 4 seats. But one day, when I can afford it, I will cross that hurdle

Manufacturers bring out facelifts with minor tweaks to headlights, taillights, small interior trim finishes, etc., because if they were to make major modifications it would cost a hell-of-a-lot of money and then you can't really call it a facelift, can you? It would be almost like a whole new model. And BTW they have the 5-seat option.

Well I suppose they had to do something! In terms of appearance not much has changed. If these pictures are to be believed we can all breathe a sigh of relief that they haven't spoilt the look. I think the X6 is a superb and daring design. It looks so different from the usual SUV which are all thinly veiled variations on the Range Rover.
The X6 is simply magnificent. I love the high ground clearance which is great for driving on uneven terrain. I love the commanding view of the road. I love the athletic looks. Thank goodness the engines do not disappoint.
The model shown is a Monaco Blue X6 xDrive50i. I love the pronounced Hofmeister kink and the way the chrome door trim accentuates it. This brings me to one of my gripes. I hope that for the facelifted 2012 model year, BMW will not make Shadow Line Trim mandatory with the Sports Package. They should give customers the option of having normal chrome trim with the Sports Package. Chrome and that Hofmeister kink look stunning against dark metallic paints as seen in there pics. What's the point of having the kink if it is not clearly seen? Why does BMW associate Shadow Line Trim with sports and then force people to take it when buying the Sports Package?

Can't say more than all you've said-you summed it up.
The X6 has sold so much and still selling-maybe because it's 'ugly'.
