Cadillac Converj concept gets green-lighted - report
Could be launched in 2013
The Cadillac Converj concept was a surprise hit at the 2009 North American International Auto Show and a new report is indicating the model has been approved for production.
Citing a source familiar with the matter, Green Car Reports says the model will likely be launched in 2013 with an upgraded Voltec powertrian that would offer better performance and efficiency than the Chevrolet Volt / Opel Ampera.
As we have previously reported, Bob Lutz told reporters the Converj was approved for production last January but GM eventually reversed that decision.

RWD would definitely be best, but I would be surprised if it comes out this way. If they are going to base this on the Chevy Volt platform, and still make it profitable, it will cost too much to change the drivetrain and packaging configuration. That's just my guess. But, it's a good looking concept!

Yeah, I agree with CDspeed. The Volt's battery pack is T-shaped, running between the front seats and the rear wheels. Tucking a tranny, driveshaft, and differential in there would be tricky unless they just make it a two seater.
Still, I think this will add cachet for the brand.

I hope the production version looks as good as the concept. I'm not an American car fan but it is one sweet lookin Caddy : )

A great replacement for my efficient car when current Elantra lease expires (in 2014). A great looker! I love watching the current CTS coupes on the road, this has that design and the even more attractive small car factor. I hope they make one with regular gasoline, or at least non-plugin hybrid.

Great design. I love it.
US car producers have a big chance to get back with EV.
Go electricity! :)
