Mercedes CLC Shooting Brake approved for production - report
Could be launched in 2014
Mercedes has reportedly approved production of the CLC Shooting Brake.
Set to be launched in 2014, the model will be a sporty five-door wagon that is based on the CLC sedan. Styling will likely be influenced by the CLS Shooting Brake concept, so expect a sloping roofline and a heavily-stylized rear end.
Few other details are available, but the car will ride on the MFA platform and be offered with a variety of petrol and diesel engines.

Sexiest roof line of any avant, wagon or estate on the market..... Eliminate the R-class and make this Mercedes.

OK I'm confused...correct me if I'm wrong.
If Shooting Brake = Station Wagon,
then "what is C, E and S Station Wagon?",
else if, "C, E and S Station Wagon, Estate = C, E and S Shooting Brake".
Runtime error, Java script...#@%*&^

No. Only CLC will be called Shooting Brake probably, because it will be sporty looking and not as praktical like the real station wagons in Mercedes family.
And CLC is a nich car (4door coupe) for people who want somethind different and more exclusive looking. So MB just cant name this bigger model as ordinary station wagon family car, it would scare people off - its a marketing thing.

shooting break does not exactly mean station wagon. A shooting break is a wagon tail-end grafted unto a coupe (think Aston DB5 Shooting Break, or Jaguar XJS Shooting Break). Mercedes is playing off the 'coupe' positioning of the CLC, albeit a 4 door, so to introduce a wagon variant to what they call a coupe, automatically means its a shooting break.
As others have said, its in no way going to be as practical as C or E Class estate, so it shouldn't poach sales from those models. For starters, the boot is going to be a lot smaller, with a restrictive hatch opening because of the body shape, and seating is most likely going to be 2+2, perhaps with no option for a rear bench

Love it, I'll take a nice fat AMG V8 with it please. Does anyone know where this "Shooting Brake" term has come from? Is it just a more exotic way of saying "station wagon"? Or is it just another word that has been invented to make the already confusing number of different model variants even more confusing?

Like Hanssolo above i don't get this car. The CLS shooting brake looks like an estate/wagon and the CLC version would too. If CLC is now a smaller CLS then the shooting brake is...the C class estate? Or a very small R class? What is it that isn't there in the MB lineup right now?

I think they should make a CLS shooting break rather than the CLC shooting break.
Also - why does every article on WCF only ever get rated 3*?

It's an interesting design - looks nice, but really when you get down to it, if it's going to be a wagon then I would think there's an expectation that it also be functionally sufficient in terms of cargo capacity. Simply said, this isn't - it's like the BMW 5GT which makes NO sense (and is ugly to boot). The CLC may have looks, but this is not the kind of car you would bring home for it's function, so why bother?

Nice piece of news MB! I hoped the production model would retain most of the concept's styling cues.

I Think its a beautiful car as well. Didnt MB have a concept, that looked just like this, but was a two door? last year? That was really sharp. This car would take care of so many needs of mine. Stylish people hauler and the ability to schelp stuff home from costco. LOL
