New Q7 coming in 2014?

New details are starting to emerge about Audi's future crossover lineup as Car Magazine is reporting the next-generation Q7 will be launched in early 2014.

Set to ride on the MLB Evo platform, the new model will reportedly feature an aluminum body which will help it weigh 300 kg (661 lbs) less than the current crossover. Additionally, there's word of a plug-in hybrid variant which could use a 217 hp (162 kW / 220 PS) 2.0-liter TFSI petrol engine and a 99 hp (74 kW / 100 PS) electric motor.

In 2016, Audi is rumored to introduce a redesigned Q5 which is also based on the MLB Evo platform. Information is limited, but the model will reportedly be 100 kg (220 lbs) lighter than the current version. A few months later, a sportier Q6 variant is slated to join the lineup.

For 2017, the brand could launch a Porsche Cajun-based Q4 coupe. It remains unclear what direction it will take but three options are reportedly under consideration: luxury, sport or off-road.

Lastly, the entry-level Q1 is a grab bag of rumors. It could be based on the A1, the A2 or the next-generation A3. Take your best guess and hope for the best.

This is interesting. Moving to the MLB evo platform would likely mean splitting from the Touareg-Cayenne platform. Unless, as Audi is now in charge of development for large VW group SUV's, the next Touareg-Cayenne follow and are also based on MLB. It will likely improve on-road prowess but hurt off-road potential.

Being given the responsibility of the crossover platform doesn't mean bombard us with SUVs. Definitely not interested in anymore Q cars unless maybe a Wrangler sorta off-road without the luxury equiptment.

661 lbs! Wow! But 2016 for the next Q5 seems a long way off, although there is nothing wrong with the current one. In ny neck of the woods it's still a 4 month wait for one.

The Q7 is in desperate need of losing weight! 600lb is a good start.

First off, these are CROSSOVERS. Not SUVs. What about the Q6? I don't like the Q5. Something in between the Q5 and Q7 is needed. I remember reading the Q6 is suppose to be a "4-door sport coupe crossover" (uggh) and compete with the BMW X6. I would love to own an R4 and Q6. Bring'em on Audi!

everyone seems to be forgetting that audi, for the longest time, had the allroad quattro. a crossover in the truest sense of the word.

The automotive world need neither any more crossovers from the VW Group nor the speculation of them.

O.K. I call bulls--t on panamera789. I don't think he's owned all of the cars he said he has. What's more "I am not biased against any one brand, I just hate audi" is a complete contradiction lol. Wow, sucks to be you carrying around that load of hate for a car company.
