2012 Porsche 911 Carrera (991) spied on the street [video]

Video shows a next-generation 911 Carrera virtually undisguised at at gas station in Stuttgart, Germany

This 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera (991) prototype was spied at a gas station in Stuttgart, Germany.

This time we get to see it in this apparent Maroon color and virtually undisguised with only that red tape covering what appears to be a set of lights at each corner of the rear bumper.

That color does bring out the shape of the car much better than in the previous spottings we've had of prototypes almost always in black.

We also get to hear what will likely be the 911 Carrera's production-spec sound.

In Porsche world, red calipers are standard issue. Yellow calipers indicate the expensive optional carbon ceramics. The quad tailpipes are usually a sign that it's an S though, unless they've decided to give all of them 4 this time.

In my market the basic models wear black calipers. S models have silver calipers and turbos have red calipers. The yellow carbon ceramic being an option on all cars.

What's with that "sunroof" sticking out? Looks weird, and I can't imagine that being good for aerodynamics. Other than that the car looks nice.

Let's just hope it was the limitation of cell phone audio, but I'm sure they'll have an optional exhaust system, probably for $5K.

How did I know it was going to look like this? Oh yes - because every 911 looks the same! I also like the way the Porsche tries to get away from the camera, then - alas, red light.

If something isn't broke, why fix it? This is why the 911 has been so successful, generation after generation.

This is one of the few cars left that I still desire. Maybe it was early product placement in my childhood. The back seems to be getting bigger and flatter. I guess that's the styling compromise if you're going to keep stuffing more stuff back there.

Porsche don't really give a damn about what you guys think because virtually none of you drive a 911 as a personal car! Five years ago, I drove a 911 S with 355bhp and everything I've read about 911's came true that day! So, leave the sportscar geniuses alone to do their thing; they'll still sell them all anyway whether you like the new one or not. Despite the increasing bulk (to cater for new Euro regulations), a 911 is still a thing of beauty! Timeless classic every time.

It is a beautiful car, but not practical for every season of life. Two of my friends have them (neither of whom are small di_cked alpha males)
