Interior shot shows new instrument cluster layout

Here are the latest spy shots of the upcoming, third-generation 2013 MINI.

Most notable here is the interior shot which gives us a look at that new instrument cluster. Gone is the Big Ben-like, center-mounted speedometer in exchange for a more traditional instrument panel layout - tachometer and speedometer.

Compared to the current MINI generation, we can also see how the shape of the car will be changed. The car appears a little longer and wider, with a more steeply raked windscreen and upward-sweeping shoulder line. Other details include the smaller grille, longer bonnet and thinner A-pillars.

As for engines, entry-level variants are expected to feature new three-cylinder turbocharged units, both diesel and petrol, displacing 1.5-liters and producing 130 PS (96 kW / 128 hp) and 150 PS (110 kW / 148 hp) in separate configurations. Next will be a range of 2.0-liter four-cylinders from the upcoming 2012 BMW 1-Series.

For the Cooper S, a new turbocharged 1.6-liter petrol that produces 180 PS (132 kW / 178 hp) is likely while the JCW gets a similar unit with 220 PS (162 kW / 217 hp).

Definitely very valid points in that blog post but still speculative. But the attacking attitude of the writer is a bit sensational.

Sensational? more like self righteous and smug. Are they allowed to copy your photos? maybe you should send them an invoice.

That site doesn't make sense. Why would BMW test the FWD's interior in this mule when they have already got the prototypes for the FWD. Just to throw off magazines and web sites? I don't think so.

Wait! that's a Mini fan site with no traffic, dont bother youll get nothing from them. What a douche bag article hyping off of wcf. That article proves nothing by giving more speculation.

it does make more sense that this is a bmw test mule rather than a MINI replacement. it's more worthwhile camouflaging the exterior of a new model. as well, perhaps their FWD development team is based where the MINI engineers are, which is very logical.
