Launches next summer

Cadillac has released the first teaser image of the 2013 ATS.

Set to be launched next summer, the model will be built at the Lansing Grand River assembly plant and battle the Audi A4, BMW 3-Series and Mercedes C-Class. The car is expected to ride on the rear-wheel Alpha platform and feature a turbocharged four-cylinder engine as well as a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 with 380 hp (283 kW / 385 PS) in the ATS-V.

In a statement, GM's North American President Mark Reuss said "We have extensively and exhaustively studied the competitive segment, and we have benchmarked the best. And when this car comes out, that will be readily apparent."

Cadillac to Launch Compact Luxury Sedan in 2012

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. - Cadillac will expand its model lineup in 2012 with a new entry in the compact luxury segment codenamed ATS. General Motors North America President Mark Reuss released this sketch of the model today at the Center for Automotive Research's Management Briefing Seminars.

The small Cadillac will begin production next summer at Lansing Grand River, the same Michigan assembly plant that builds the award-winning midsize Cadillac CTS sedan, coupe and wagon. The plant received a $190 million investment and 600 jobs for the new model.

"The car we codenamed ATS is being developed to be a driver's car on an all-new Cadillac-specific RWD-AWD architecture," Reuss said. "We have extensively and exhaustively studied the competitive segment, and we have benchmarked the best. And when this car comes out, that will be readily apparent."

Cadillac's relentless assault on Europe continues unabated. After the runaway success of the CTS sedan and coupe, the ATS should be even better in most areas, but must be impeccably well appointed to ruffle distinguished feathers in Europe!

Tough task to go blow for blow with these 3. Wouldn't the Lexus IS be a better rival coz no matter how much better than the 3 Germans the ATS will be you can't go wrong with the brand power the other 3 have.

GM is coming out with a lot of muscle type cars just like the 1970's when everyone else was making fuel efficient cars.

not really. GM/Cadillac is doing what Mercedes, BWM & Audi are doing giving us smaller displacement, high tech, fuel efficient turbo & supercharged engines that deliver the power of a larger engine and the fuel economy of a smaller one. Good job!

Hardly. GM has finally abandoned the mindless mantra of "no replacement for displacement" discredited retarded thinking that has been hobbling Detroit for decades. Only the loudmouthed dumbasses in trailer parks still cling to this idiotic lie. GM is making efficient power in a way unthinkable in the 1970s.

The side profile reminds me of a E class Mercedes Benz, along with the Audi a4. I like it. But my question is what will happen to the cts?. I thought the "ATS" would replace the current "DTS". What caddilac needs is a premier Full size sedan That will boost more sales. They need the same formula that they had for the Escalade and CTS. The current devile is build for retired old men. Come on caddilac..

ATS is new, 3 series/C class competitor . CTS will directly compete against 5 series/E class. XTS is new and replaces the DTS. It will be FWD (like the DTS) or AWD and target Lexus ES300 buyers but it is not the Cadillac Flagship (7 series/S class rival) which will come later.

If they get the ATS right it might replace the Lancer evo as my favorite compact.

Cadillac is the best North American car manufacturer. You can bet they'll get this car right and I hope we'll see it in Europe cause I'm willing to give them my vote after seeing the competence of the CTS.

I really think that Cadillac is starting to get more and more on their game. I do not at all doubt the claims made that the best in segment were tested and bench marked. I'm actually excited about this model, and the CTS proves that GM/Cadillac can get the ride/handling dynamics right. But, even better, is that they can combine this with a distinctly unique, and American, and Cadillac sense of style, which is something that is dearly lacking in the competition. Good luck Cadillac! Never thought I'd say those words!!!

"battle the Audi A4, BMW 3-Series and Mercedes C-Class." - Don't make me laugh! In North America maybe, but this would NEVER cut it in Europe. Cadillac isn't seen as a luxury manufacturer; just the best the USA could come up with.

While the front ends of Cadillacs are a bit brash, the rest of the styling is pretty clean. By contrast, recent Mercedes models are so over-styled. I see this as an ironic reversal of the 1970s when Cadillacs were regarded as a bit garish and Mercedes was seen as more understated.
