Mazda introduces new CX-5 ahead of Frankfurt debut
New compact SUV will feature Mazda's SKYACTIV technology
Mazda has introduced the new CX-5 compact SUV ahead of its Frankfurt show debut.
The CX-5 is based on the Minagi Concept unveiled in Geneva last March and is a shorter-wheelbase version of the CX-7. The car also features Mazda's new Kodu design language.
Mazda says the new CX-5 comes with its new SKYACTIV technology - meant to create more fuel-efficient vehicles. The CX-5 2.2 liter SKYACTIV-D 2WD MT will have CO2 emissions below 120 g/km.
The CX-5 will debut at the Frankfurt motor show in September and goes on sale in 2012.

I don't have a crystal ball or anything, but I see big things in Mazda's future, this thing looks great.

Looks good enough... very Japanese, but what will set it apart is how it drives. The CRV, Rav4 etc need to be worried now.
And speaking of, I was always confused why Mazda sized the CX7 like it is, since it bigger than other small SUV's, but smaller than the medium sized ones. Maybe they always planned on a smaller variant?!

this thing looks fantastic. I already have an order for ix35 but i am considering to cancel it. 2nd and 3rd picture are Cx5?

1st and 2nd is what appears to be a Mazda 3 with a small facelift, 3rd is the CX-5.

Thanks for the article WCF but there are some irrelevant pics of a Mazda 3.

I've been waiting for this car for some time with the diesel in the US. I hope it has some set of LED in the front.
Competition is getting tighter. Now, BMW will be offering even the X1 diesel version. I am having a second thought. The Porsche Cajun was in my mind for awhile, but now the d variant of BMW is really tempting. Just gotta see how far $ difference it gonna be.
During my recent visit to Canada, BMW X1 and the Lexus hybrid hatchback seems to be running the show in the North suburb on ON.

it looks good probably better in person, good thing is there are no crappy LEDs

I can't believe some people actually like this. This thing looks like crap. It is a small wagon on bigger wheels. This should be a CX-3 not a CX-5.

I agree the photo shows an ugly look. However, the look might be different in person.
I still believe the LED "crappy" is a must. Mercedes, Audi, VW, Porsche, Lexus, Hundai, and Kia have them in some of their models now.

the shinari concept could become a new flagship for the company as a premium mazda 7 or mazda 9...
