Mercedes-Benz says, No! We will sell the most cars!

Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche issues a letter saying Mercedes-Benz plans to be the world's biggest-selling premium brand

Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche has issued a letter to the automaker's employees to rally them to the cause of growing sales and reclaiming the top spot as global premium sales leader.

Zetsche wrote in the letter: "In the long run we can't be content to be in a 'solid second' or even 'third' place: We are Daimler - we should be far ahead of the pack! And if that requires something that we don't currently have, then we'll identify and develop it."

Mercedes-Benz has been growing its sales lately in an expanding global premium market, but it's competitors, Audi and BMW, have been rising more quickly. Mercedes-Benz is now third, behind second-place Audi, in global luxury sales for 2011.

"Our competitors' success should provide us with additional motivation," said Zetsche.

Daimler's profit margins and sales growth are still healthy by any standards. But in the macho world of selling cars, being the biggest player around is still the number one target to meet.

they might very well achieve this when the new A and B Classes (and their special derivatives) are launched. Sales figures only tell half the story anyway. Ask any German... they'll tell you Mercedes is only second to Porsche. All other German brands fall in afterwards

wanna make this happen , Herr Zetsche ? hike your workers salaries across the board and your wildest dreams and aspirations would readily come true . also , try overhauling your cars dreary looks both from the inside out as to drop the label " An Old Man's Car " . you could also consider re-engineering the Gelandewagen's prehistoric, farm implement suspension system to that of a modern , fully-independent assembly as to bring this venerable vehicle up to date by contemporary standards .

the G-Wagen is a military vehicle first, civilian cash maker second, it was never designed for the road. and it will be killed very soon anyway.

i could hardly wait for its funeral , it should have gone the way of the dinosaurs much earlier . by the same token , the AM GeneralHumvee H1 was a multi-role military-spec vehicle which had far greater tactical applications than your sponsored G-Wagen , moreover , it had been engineered with a mechanically-sophisticated fully-independent suspension system coupled to geared wheel hubs for more efficient cross-country travel and superior traction than the antiquated vehicle of your choice , a glamourized three-pointed star badged farm tractor .

One thing that mercedes should see are their authorized dealers. For example, our MB dealer in Kuwait doesn't give that much attention on customer satisfaction. As for there competitors in Kuwait like Audi and BMW, People go back again and again to buy new cars for their quality of service and customer satisfaction. Being that the Middle East makes a big part of there sales. They should focus more on the dealers there as it is a monopoly, each country only has one dealer. its either get the car from them or you can't get a mercedes at all.

How old are you or have you been living in a parallel dimension called BMWorld? Go count the patents and the even greater number of non-patented technologies Mercedes has developed. Would certainly make you change you mind.

Dr. Zetsche - being the best doesn't mean selling the most.

Exactly - I have yet to understand this recent uptick in sales war. Mercedes Benz is the far superior Luxury make. Period! That should be enough.

Mercedes-Ben are damant on losing their tag of exlusivity by becoming just "another" mass market car builder; such a shame for a brand with so much history. I would hate to be crusing in my SLS roadster when a cheap ass A-Class pulls up net to me at the lights. Tsk tsk tsk Mercedes!

Recent JD Power for 2011 under "Intial Quality Study" problems per 100 cars shows Lexus as number 1 (not a surprise), MB ranked at 4th, BMW ranked at 14th, and Audi at 19th place. :)
