Debuts in Frankfurt

The Frankfurt Motor Show is just around the corner and Porsche is rewarding our patience by stripping camouflage from 911 prototypes.

As you can see, the model will have an evolutionary design with a front end that is virtually identical to the current car. Despite the similarities, there are a number of differences beyond the A-pillar including new door mirrors, a smaller greenhouse, slimmer taillights and a restyled rear end. Overall, the vehicle is nearly 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) wider than the current model and rides on a wheelbase that has been stretched roughly 4 inches (10.2 cm).

As we have previously reported, the Carrera is slated to adopt a 3.4-liter flat-six engine with 350 PS (257 kW / 345 hp). Moving up the Carrera S will reward drivers with 400 PS (294 kW / 395 hp), while the Turbo is rumored to have an output of approximately 550 PS (405 kW / 542 hp). Regardless of what engine is selected, it can be paired to a seven-speed manual or an optional seven-speed PDK.

you don't actually need to disguise a 911. you only have to cover the front and rear end. just like in the picture!

I wish the back could be more tapered, like early 911s, bit otherwise, it's gorgeous. I'm a sucker for the general shape. Must have been early product placement when I was a kid.

Looks like a 911. Is it REALLY much more impressive than the last or are you just force feeding yourself. IMHO Porsche is definitely due for another coupe in their line up and not another economic baby coupe like the 10 variations of a boxster they're about to release. Wheres the 928? Time for something ground breaking!!!

Some of you may be surprised, but while the 997 was just an improved version of the 1997 launched 996 the 991 is a complete new car. Except the well known shape its underpinning chassis is a ground new construction. IMO the 991 looks fantastic! Especially when I remind all the ghastly stuff Porsche launched in the last few years... But no one is obliged to feed Piech: Just go for a Vantage, a 458 Italia or a ZR8! :))

I think we would all excel at our jobs if we were 911 designers :) the requirements of change aren't very big.
