Saab 9-6X concept unveiled - six years after being axed
Saabaru part deux
The first pictures of the Saab 9-6X concept have hit the web, nearly six years after the model was axed.
Recently unveiled at the company's museum in Trollhättan, the vehicle was based on the Subaru Tribeca and was slated to be a follow up to the Impreza-based 9-2X. However, fate intervened as the 9-6X was shelved when GM sold their minority stake in Fuji Heavy Industries in 2005.
While the concept isn't beautiful, Saab also built a three-door prototype which could have been a unique offering if it would have been launched.

The smart $ says downsize. Saab $ says go bigger than 9-4X... 9-1 hatch or 9-2 sedan/coupe would be super right now!

This would have been freakin' stupid! Why even bother! Thank goodness this did not happen.

Don't blame Saab for this one. This is one of GM's 'We need more SUV's' attempts from 5 years ago.
That's right people, AXED 5 years ago, so comments about Saab being stupid here are a little out of touch!

Seriously, I think GM did not pay due respect to Saab. When they (GM) created (or badge-engineered) the Saab 9-2X and 9-6X, it was sending an obvious signal to Trollhattan: "Make money at all costs!"
Though the 9-2X was pushed ahead for production, the pilots at Saab were sensible to canned the 9-6X. Kudos to them despite the odds.
In current times, I wished Saab well and hoped they will rise to the challenge. It could become an Swedish Audi!
