BMW M3 GTS vs. Porsche 911 GT3 RS by Fifth Gear [video]

The two GT racers with exactly the same output go up against each other in a track challenge

Some vehicle comparisons can be tricky in that the cars that are chosen are not really meant to go up against each other.

But this side-by-side track competition between the BMW M3 GTS and the Porsche 911 GT3 RS makes for a solid challenge.

They both dole out exactly 450 PS (331 kW / 444 bhp) - the M3 GTS from its 4.4 liter V8 unit and the 911 GT3 RS from a 3.8 liter flat-six engine.

Fifth Gear's Tiff Needell wins the battle for the best lap time with his GT3 RS beating Vicki Butler Henderson's M3 GTS by exactly one second.

But, no disrespect to Lady Henderson's driving, we can probably chalk much of that time difference down to Mr. Needell's masterly driving skills.

Don't know if anyone watched this on Friday last week but their timing isn't very scientific. No radar guns. Just either Tiff or Jason clicking on a stop watch IN THE CAR!!! Love the show but that isn't too good for a show that claims to be for the proper motor enthusiast!

What kind of tests are this? Two different cars driven by different drivers, especially because the Tiff is a better driver. Not really realistic judging.

One second is not quiet much, I mean for 200KG more on the rips. Interesting would be what happen within the same weightclass?

Is it my imagination but at frame 0:17, there appears to be no one on the car. It appeared to me that the car was rolling on its own power. Now I'm a BMW Fan but I think it all said and done Id go with the Porsche GT3, that car just sets it self apart from the other porsches where as the BMW just looks alike any other M car apart from a lip and wing

It's just entertainment , if it was a serious race and there were two tiff drivers gt3 RS would win by 2 second at least.

I'm pretty much sure that Tiff is a faster driver. Plato should have driven the M3. Anyway, wouldn't mind owning any one of the two.

GT3 RS would've won anyway. Same power output...but weighs 400 pounds less

Lucas, S65 and CTS-V? Cars are in different segments, that would be CTS-V and E63 or CLS63

I agree with the article - VBH's driving would not be as good....why don't they both time them with both drivers?? 2 drivers in 2 different cars is a bit of a lost cause if you ask me.

One thing I saw that Tiff didn't wear the seat beat when doing the lap, but both cars are aggressive.

Curious if the result would be different if they switched drivers. Amazing cars, but the results are as God intended the world to be.

Porsche looks more aggressive and unique. And BMW looks to simple, little to much like aftermarket tunap. Performance is there for both that's out if the question. Great cars.
