2012 Camaro ZL1 to offer 570+ hp - report
Aims to battle the Shelby GT500
The Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 won't hit the streets until early next year, but a new report is indicating the model will have more than 570 hp (425 kW / 578 PS).
As you may recall, when the car was introduced at the Chicago Auto Show, GM said the supercharged 6.2-liter engine would have an output of approximately 550 hp (410 kW / 557 PS). However, sources are now reporting the model needs extra horsepower to battle the 2013 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 which is expected to adopt a supercharged 5.8-liter V8 with up to 620 hp (462 kW / 629 PS).
Regardless of what the final numbers are, it's clear the horsepower war is far from over.

finally the camaro is getting the right engine that
is equal with its reputation. I hope they do it with two systems (Manual + Automatic) transmission.
that will increase the range of sales.

All it needs now is a 400# weight loss and it will be way fast, that is if it has enough grip off the line

Hope this car gets better parts to be able to cope with all that hosepower. Like better brakes, suspension, and a better way of putting the power down. Otherwise its just another straight line car, that cant even do that properly.

Totally agree, no use putting in all that power if it never gets put to the ground properly. now if only they can make it transform into a robot...

If they were able to do that hopefully they use a Bose sound system cuz it will probably be only able to communicate through the radio :P

The camaro is a beauty but if you're gonna go for such a package then why not get the Corvette? Other than the two seats its all around a better proven sports car.

some people cant afford a vette espically ones with options on it. A vette with all the bells and whistles can run u about 100 grand, not counting the ZR1. Which decient options the grand sport will run you 70k US dollars. A ZO6 will run u about $95k with performance packege. these figures are without taxes included.
