CEO Wolfgang Dürheimer says that a luxury Bentley SUV is in demand and will compete against the likes of the Porsche Cayenne

Bentley chief Wolfgang Dürheimer says the luxury British marque is planning an SUV to rival the likes of the Porsche Cayenne and Land Rover Range Rover.

Dürheimer confirmed the news to Auto, Motor und Sport.

The British marque's largest markets, China, Europe, and the United States, are places were luxury SUVs are much in demand, says its CEO.

According to the report, the new SUV will be added to the product lineup alongside introductions of new Mulsanne and Continental models.

First reports of a Bentley SUV go back to 2006!

People lament the dying of the manual transmission and the plethora of suv choices and this is because poseur douchebags and plastic surgery stay-at-home trophy wifes only want status symbols to show how much money that they can waste without missing it. A Bentley SUV is a true Stupid Useless Vehicle other that a fast and easy way to salve to fragile ego of poseurs. The value of these cars will drop like a stone because they serve no real purpose in the real world.

for bentley to develop an SUV is a very simple task. basically reskin a Q7/Cayenne and finish the interior. People will buy. their goal is to make money. People complaint about porsche building an SUV, and look, they made shit loads of money off these people. Same thing will happen with Bentley.

Wasn't more then 50% sales of bentley in the middle east? On a side note the SUV might sell well there too.

....rival the Range Rover.....give it a rest. Just because you stick a Bentley badge onto a Q7 platform doesn't give it the exuberance of a Range Rover. No pedigree, no history (in the land of SUV's), if it looks like anything as above it will fall into the laughable SAV category of the X series from BMW, Mercedes ML class etc........at least the Q7 can get close to the RR in terms of capability off road, nowhere near on road of course, nothing and I mean nothing has the stance, class and DNA that only a RR could offer, the same goes for drive ability, something that you only respect if you have owned one.......and before the jealousy remarks start who drive their non de-script wagons, the reliability argument is long dead.....factually, more BMW's / Mercs / Audis are hopping onto the backs of Mr AA's trucks than any other make and model........as I know, I own an Audi / BMW / Merc........laughable build quality on all 3 thus far.

yes... of course... another premium producer wanna have an SUV on the streets (alongside Lamborghini, Ferrari, etc)... but did they ever consider that, exactly like in the stock exchange market, trying to get yourself into a trend too late will most likely take you out of the market and will blow your account? Same thing here... if other producers had their big successes in this niche, it doesn't mean they will cash in also... oh, well... in the end I don't care what are they doing with their own money...

W.O Bentley was probably spinning in his grave when the Continental GT came out, and look what a success that turned out to be! Companies have to move on and adapt
