Suzuki Swift Sport coming in 2012 - report
Suzuki Swift S Concept

Could debut at the Tokyo Motor Show

According to a recent report, Suzuki has confirmed plans to launch a Swift Sport in early 2012.

Details are limited, but the company's Russian subsidiary has apparently issued a press release which says the model will be a three-door hatchback with styling inspired by the S-Concept.

Power will reportedly be provided by a 1.6-liter four-cylinder petrol engine with 136 PS (100 kW / 134 hp). It will be connected to a six-speed manual, but an automatic will also be available.

The car will likely be unveiled at the Tokyo Motor Show, so stay tuned for additional information.

bleh... Suzuki needs to do better with their engines. I guess 136hp is ok as an entry spec (to compete against a Mini Cooper for example), but they desperately need a higher output version to be a Cooper S rival. I hope they offer a forced induction (or at the very least some N/A massaging) version with 160hp minimum.

Looks great, although it could do with a bit more power. It needs at least 30hp more if it wishes to compete with the Ibiza Cupra or Abarth Punto.

It looks like it is in the territory of a kit car at around 300 hp but it is not. I really wonder how many people like this swift thing.

its gonna be a fun car to drive. Still, I would appreciate a turbocharged 1.6L producing around 200ps as an another variant to choose from
