Porsche 928 revival in the works - report
New Porsche 928 Coupe computer rendering / Lehmann Photo-Syndication

Could be based on the next-gen Panamera

The Porsche 928 went out of production in 1995, but a new report is indicating a successor is in the works.

According to Auto Car, the model - possibly dubbed the 929 - will be based on the next-generation Panamera which is slated to be launched in 2014 or 2015. Additional information is limited, but the car would reportedly be available as a coupe and convertible.

The source also indicated a Panamera wagon is under consideration, but nothing has been green-lighted as of yet.

yessssssss 928 revival, very good Porsche...bring it as soon as possible! I can imagine 928 Turbo S with 600hp and long bonnet, a good SL65 AMG Black Series/SLS AMG competitor:D

Ehh uhhhhh, I can't say if this car is ugly or not. The front looks like a new generation Toyota MR2 and a Porsche cayman married and had a kid, but the grandparents were 612 Scaglietti's. But from the back, that picture the back it looks like a Jag E-Type. A really wierd mix.

This particular rendering has been on the web for at least a couple of years now. I know I have been searching for any news for a 928 successor. There is little chance this will look anything like the real deal.

I hope that Porsche can make this new 928 innovative as well. The first 928 was notable for bumpers that were made to look integrated into the rest of the body work, something that was unique when the car first came out. Also I hope Porsche brings back the instrument cluster that tilt adjusts with the steering wheel. The 928 was the first to have that.

I hoped such rumors would be turned into action. The management should give the future-gen 928 a chance for a comeback.

isn't a 928 probably just similar to 998?

Sorry I'm too young to remember the 928, would it basically be a 2 door Panamera?
