VW Beetle R will get at least the same amount of power from the same 2.0 liter TFSI unit that goes into the Golf R
VW will, indeed, be trotting out an R version of the new Beetle, according to a report by German car magazine Auto, Motor und Sport.
And the Beetle R will be getting, at the very least, says the report, the full 270 PS (199 kW / 266 bhp) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque from the same 2.0 liter turbocharged power plant that goes into the Golf R.
But first, the euro-spec Beetle will be getting the 2.0 liter TFSI unit from the Golf GTI in a 200 PS (147 kW / 197 bhp) configuration which will debut in the model later this year. Its 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint time will take 7.5 seconds, consumption will be 7.7 liters/100 km and prices will start at €27,100.
Special thanks to Luis Baston of Kane Design for the renderings.

Clarkson always says the 911 looks like a squashed beetle, This beetle looks like an inflated 911

Too 'polar' for me. Girly on one side fast on the other. Why don't they slap on a big flower shaped rear spoiler too? LOL

An insider tells me this car is aesthetically very different from the previous one and that it will appeal to males as well. I fail to see it in the pictures but lets wait and see. Oh and VW, please don't sell a 270hp car to women, God help us.

This needs AWD. The only way the Beetle will appeal to guys is if they came out with a special Beetle R 4S edition which featured wider arches, Porsche suspension and Porsche Design bodykit.
