Would battle the Nissan GT-R?

According to a recent report, Hyundai is developing a supercar to battle the Nissan GT-R and Porsche 911.

Inside Line says the model would cost between $80,000 and $100,000 and use the new 5.0-liter V8 from the Genesis R-Spec.  It remains unclear if the engine would be front or mid-mounted, but it wouldn't be surprising if Hyundai would retune it to produce upwards of 429 hp (320 kW / 435 PS) and 376 lb-ft (509 Nm) of torque.

When asked about the rumors, Hyundai Motor America CEO John Krafcik denied everything and chalked it up to "scurrilous nonsense." Regardless, would you consider a Hyundai supercar if one was offered?

To answer WCF's question- 10 years ago I wouldn consider a Hyundai small hatch, I wouldn consider a Lexus supercar, OR even an Audi Cabriolet Supercar. I would not get too excited about a funny named car from Sweden, of all places, and would laugh in the face of anyone suggesting a Porsche SUV, or even more absurdly- a BMW M-badged turbo SUV. So, I guess my point is- why not, if they can get it just right- more power to 'em! Heck,I mite even buy one, if it is as reliable as their cars.

The GT-R and 911 are both historic and amazing cars. This car has to be something special if it wishes to compete with those two.

quality, reliability & dependability wise, Hyundai is up there & beyond, no doubt about it. however, it takes more time for people to reconize the name "Hyundai" not equal to cheap korean-made vehicle. i wouldn't mind to buy a Equus over Lexus LS, Sonata over Camry & Accord.

A Hyundi supercar? Just when I thought car manufacturers are becaming boring. I hope it's gonna be really good and cheaper than GTR.

if they ever make a super car, i'm pretty sure it will never be as good as GT-R in terms of performence. but it will be a good start!!

Not so long ago...I would have said no. Now...? Why not? Hyundai's proven they can build quility cars, even luxury cars that can compete with the best. If it can match a 911 for soul and a GT-R for performance, while retaining the Hyundai reliability...then absolutely I'd get one. Hyundai definitely doesn't suck anymore, and they've proven they're serious about offering exciting products.

that is a great idea...if the car would have similar performance as GT-R and a much better price than why not, the exterior design I believe that Hyundai can compete and make an even more attractive car than GT-R, performance wise not because the RWD and non-turbo V8 and 6-gear stick are not enough but who cares, maybe it will be more of a BMW M3 competitor for much less and that is PHENOMENAL!!! Go Hyundai and do it right...produce it and show to everyone that you can and be the pain in the ass for the others!!! conclusion...GT-R and M3 are a little bit too expensive for me...if the Hyundai has similar car for 20-30 thousand less then I am buying one!

When the report states that it might have a 5.0 V8 I thought so as well. Possibly a muscular alternative to the C63 AMG anyone ??

The US market should really appreciate the attention that Hyundai is giving them because in most markets in the East, they only get the entry level models - I say to Hyundai, do it worldwide.

There's no doubt that they are capable of making such a car. We know that they are willing to spend the money on consulting and engineering work to support what they lack... They could probably afford to buy a small scale racing/sports car production outfit so they don't have to start from scratch... BUT... Start a proper racing program then I'll take the super car seriously... Otherwise it's just an expensive car with sporty appeal.
