Prototypes of the 6-Series four-door have finally crossed the spy photographer's lens

Although BMW is usually the first to arrive at the party, this time they're fashionably late. Following the Mercedes CLS, Audi A7 and yes, even the Porsche Panamera, prototypes of the 6-Series four-door have finally crossed the spy photographer's lens.

First introduced as the Concept Gran Coupe in Beijing last year, then confirmed for production, and seen in recent leaked patent illustrations, the 4-door Coupe was spotted on the streets of Munich today. Already showing minimal camouflage, indicating the latter stages of development, the wheelbase looks much longer than the two-door 6 Series Coupe while the sleek profile gives way to L-shaped LED tail lights and the ever present Hofmeister kink.

To be marketed as the BMW 6-Series Gran Coupe, there are several different engines which will be offered: two petrols, two diesels, a hybrid, and an M version. This means we can expect a 300 hp (224 kW / 304 PS) 3.0-liter six-cylinder, a 400 hp (298 kW / 406 PS) 4.4-liter V8, a 3.0-liter turbo-diesel with 204 hp (152 kW / 207 PS), a 3.0-liter turbo-diesel with 245 hp (183 kW, 248 PS), a hybridized 3.0-liter petrol with a 54 hp (40 kW / 55 PS) electric motor, and a twin-turbo V8 with 555 hp (408 kW / 563 PS) to 570 hp (425 kW / 578 PS).

The Gran Coupe is expected to debut in Frankfurt this September with a market launch in late 2012.

I don't like the front of the car but everything else looks very good for me

I was just thinking that...something about the front fascia needs to be redesigned. It needs to be more aggressive, this looks....average. It doesn't look different enough from the 5 series.

Yes, I think it is due to the very long front overhang. It looks like it belongs on a transverse-mount FWD car like a Volvo S80 , not a powerful front-engine rear-drive car.

Other than the snout the whole thing looks like a baby DODGE INTREPID!

i hope it looks as close as possible to the grand coupe concept.

sadly, it won't. it's just a 6 series sedan, actually a 5 series with a 6 series front.

I look fwd to seeing this car in person because in pictures it seems pointless. The 6 series was a two door version of the 5 series. All I see is another variation of the 5 series that doesn't resemble coupe silhouette at all.

I hope it looks exactly like the Grand Coupe Concept...the most Beautiful BMW ever.

My biggest problem with this car is the 5 series. It'll cost slightly more than the 5 and I'd feel I'm paying extra for one less seat and less headroom...

Your paying for the sleeker looks, and 6 series interior. The 6 series coup cost more than the 5 series and is only a 2 seater...

I so much wanted to see Bangle's replacement pull the BMW style out of the crapper. But poor Adrian Vonker-myopic-hamfisted-derivitive-devoid-of-any-original-thought-flunkie-cut-and-paste-hack-donkey-dung just needs to go. This is just a 5 series with a weepy, droopy squint. It isn't as horrendous and the new 1 series, but it isn't remotely special.

No I think this is cool. I would tottaly buy this car if I coulda afford it. But then again I'm a very big Mercedes fan. CLS May be sexier,

There's something about the headlight that I don't like. In general, I love the body of the new 6-series, however, the face of the car is not so well proportioned between the kidney air intake and the BIG headlight set.

It's simply a 6er with 2 additional doors. Besides, it doesn't look like a coupe just like the Panamera, i don't know why they call it a coupe

my sentiments exactly. At least some try to make their version look like a coupe (CLS, Passat CC among others). All I can say is the new definition of coupe seems to be taking a regular sedan and add frameless windows. That said, then the old Subaru Forester was also a coupe LOL BMW really has to do better. Was never a fan, and my disdain for them is only elevating with each model they launch

Everything is nice about this car except the front end. The 6 series coupe and convertible are the same, very nice rear end and side profile, but the front end is hideous.

Unlike the CLS or the Panamera, BMW is cutting cost, so no frameless or pillarless doors for the 6-Series. What a shame!

What are you talking about??? Proof your glasses!!! The doors are frameless. The B-pillar is for stability...same as Mercedes CLS and Panamera.

Ok sorry my bad. I am very passionate with BMW cars, I just want this car to be perfect. I was quite dissapointed with the 6 series coupe of having the thick b-pillar and had a weird feeling that they might save some cost and put those frame doors. Guess that won't be the case, the 5 GT has got frameless doors too but the Panamera don't. My bad! My bad!

Love this type of cars. Looking at the 6's front I think that this is just test model and the production version will be a bit modified

I think this "4 door coupe thing class" will wipe out the conventional sedans some time, not soon may be but also not too far...

(far) too long wheelbase to be elegant, plus still the dumb nose of the 6 Coup?/Cabrio (if they could make that nose more agressive, it'd be a hell of a good looking car)

its not as spacious as the cls or the A7 and its not as good looking as both. its sad to see BMW moving backwards lately. plus the new 5 series is blant too grrr

The front is hugely disappointing but not surprising in that is a straight copy of the 6-Series. Where is the aggression to differentiate it from the rest of the range? The rest is nice mind so my moaning has finished for now... From these pictures alone I would pick the A7 or CLS before this whereas I would have picked Concept Gran Coupe before the others without hesitation as it looked amazing.

Much easier to swallow for mediocrity. Looks almost like Bangle made it with no any balls. What a crap.
