Auctioned to support the Elton John Aids Foundation

Audi has created a special R8 V10 Spyder to raise funds for the Elton John Aids Foundation (EJAF).

Auctioned off late last night, at the White Tie and Tiara Ball charity event, the special model was a star attraction as its mirror-like finish garnered plenty of interest.

According to Jeremy Hicks, Director of Audi UK, "Sir Elton John's fundraising ball really is a golden ticket event that is as glamorous as it is hugely effective in fundraising terms. We are delighted, and enormously proud, to support it for a ninth year with the donation of what is arguably our most fittingly glamorous model."

UNIQUE AUDI R8 SPYDER REFLECTS WELL ON SIR ELTON'S PARTY

Annual White Tie and Tiara Ball to auction unique ‘chrome' version of celebrated 194mph open-top sports car

Guests at this year's White Tie and Tiara Ball, which as always takes place at the home of Sir Elton John and his partner David Furnish, will need to empty their jewellery boxes to avoid being outshone by the very special R8 sports car donated by Audi for the star-studded event. A dazzling and unique mirror-like chromed finish has been applied to the 194mph open-top sports car especially for the occasion - which takes place on Thursday June 23rd - to attract the highest possible bids in the auction that raises hundreds of thousands of pounds for the Elton John Aids Foundation (EJAF) annually.

"Sir Elton John's fundraising ball really is a golden ticket event that is as glamorous as it is hugely effective in fundraising terms," commented Jeremy Hicks, Director of Audi UK. "We are delighted, and enormously proud, to support it for a ninth year with the donation of what is arguably our most fittingly glamorous model," he added.

The R8 Spyder features a fully-automatic lightweight fabric hood that adds wind-in-hair intensity to the already extreme driving experience delivered by the lightweight aluminium quattro-equipped super car. The donated model, combining the exceptional ten-cylinder, 525PS petrol engine with manual transmission and normally priced at £117,710 OTR, can top 194mph and blast to 62mph from rest in just 4.1 seconds.

The Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) was established in 1993, and is amongst the 10 largest AIDS grant-making organizations in the world, currently managing over £14 million in programmes across 15 countries supporting thousands of men, women and children with life-saving medication, as well as information, nutrition, education, shelter and support. The White Tie & Tiara Ball, now in its 13th year, is the EJAF's foremost fundraising event, and has been supported by Audi with special auction lots for the past eight years.

Oh Yeh, your comments shows how little you know about cars. Audi copying Mclaren cos you started reading automobile news a few days ago? As many here pointed out, Audi did many concepts in chrome. As well, Bugatti did a few chrome veyrons for customers. It is not them copying anyone. This post is about charity.

are you implying that Audi was just going to use a regular car but because they saw McLaren's chromed car, they thought, "hey, that's a brilliant idea. why not chrome out this car in these few days we have?" Some comments are just plain dumb!!!

I think Liberace beat both of these when he mirrored his, rolls royce or bentley, dont remember which. Las Vegas Police banned him from driving the car on the streets ,as a safety hazzard.

I like the look of Chromed cars but the glare from the sun is a distraction to other drivers and to the driver of the car . Chromed cars have been around for years . I know somebody who had a chromed car 10 years ago .I recently saw a chromed car that was painted red and the chrome was a flat matte and the chrome film was clear so the red paint would show through . I am thinking about having the new flat matte translucent film applied to one of my cars .

Had a chance to see the Audi Avus in person once and it was beautiful. It's been nearly 20 years since the Avus was created and it still looks better than most of the cars you see. However I don't believe Avus is chromed, it looks like the entire car is made out of aluminum.

I read with great humor the comments about banning the chromed car totally makes sense. However i would love to take a baseball bat to everyone Xeon white lights , that are so popular now days the are beyond blinding and hurtful to the eyes.

Looks pretty awesome- when McLaren first made their F1 cars chrome I was blown away by how rad it looked. Been a while since the Avus- it was a beauty for sure. Hate chrome wheels in general but they might have looked good on this car...

The Avus was made entirely of aluminum that was left exposed and I have to agree with Nardo W12 that it was a beautiful car .
