New Opel model will compete in a recently established and rapidly growing segment of compact SUVs in Europe

Here are the first spy shots available of the engine and interior of the upcoming 2012 Opel 'baby Antara' compact SUV.

The as-of-yet unnamed SUV is based on the Opel Corsa and we can see in the spy shots of the prototype here that it will feature an interior in keeping with the design and grade of the current Opel lineup.

This new Opel SUV will also be sharing technology with the Chevrolet Sonic, which goes by the name Aveo in Europe.

Powertrain possibilities include a 1.4 liter turbo unit with an output of 140 PS (138 bhp / 103 kW) and 148 lb-ft (200 Nm) of torque mated to a six-speed manual.

The 'baby Antara' will compete in a recently established and rapidly growing segment of compact SUVs in Europe such as the Audi Q3 and the Nissan Qashqai.

The compact SUV is expected to debut next year.

About time Opel offered this type of car. I will definitely look into it as a 2nd car.

Not a Corsa- but an Astra-based SUV would compete with the Qashqai and the likes. Corsa is one segment lower.
