According to a recent report, the BMW X4 has been delayed.
Details are limited, but Autocar says the model - which was originally expected in 2014 - has put on hold until BMW can develop a strategy to increase commonality between the X3 and X5. While that seems a tad peculiar, it sounds like BMW wants to wrap up development on the 2014 X5 & X6 before green-lighting the X4.
Regardless of what happens, sources are indicating the model won't be based on the current X3 platform so that leaves a lot of questions unanswered.
