Mercedes GLS coming in 2014 - report
Will battle the BMW X6
New details are starting to emerge about Mercedes' upcoming competitor to the BMW X6.
According to Autocar, the model will be launched in 2014 as the GLS. It will reportedly be based on the 2012 M-Class and feature CLS-inspired styling and a four-seat interior.
Additional information is limited, but engine options are expected to include a 258 PS (190 kW / 254 hp) 3.0-liter V6 diesel, a 306 PS (225 kW / 302 hp) 3.5-liter V6 petrol and a 435 PS (429 hp / 320 kW) 4.6-liter V8 petrol. We can also expect a hybrid and a GLS 63 AMG with a twin-turbo 5.5-liter V8 that produces 525 PS (386 kW / 518 hp) and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque.

As from the business aspect, the X6 is a very successful project. Hence the fact, everyone wants their own sport SUV. I understand your argument, but it's all about profit and markets.

you say that the X6 is pointless but the sales show the opposite... So you are in minority

With that ugly Ssangyong Rodius rear, I'm sure it will compete the X6. Two pointlessly ugly cars

This rear belongs to the new ML and has nothing to do with the X6. Yes this car is ugly but I don't think the same about the X6. The X6 is a success in terms of design, sales, performance and handling. Design may vary but the other ones are official.

shouldnt this merc be named MLS? i mean the GL is the big 7 seater. woudlnt be logical to base the x6 competitor on a 5 seater? (the ML?)

i love the interior. thanx guys that was a nice home work. But the exterior is not so "wow". not anybody can notice the difference from the outgoing ML. But Thumps up guys. Please give it the same 6.3 monster engine, dont reduce it to 5.5 AMG
