Opel could return to the U.S. - report
Would be spearhead by the 2013 Junior / Allegra
The rumor mill is kicking into high gear as a new report is indicating that Opel could return to the United States under its own brand name.
In an interview with Auto Motor und Sport, Klaus Franz, the vice chairman of the Opel's supervisory board, revealed a proposal to offer the 2013 Junior / Allegra in America. It seems unlikely that GM would approve the measure, since Buick and Opel are already aligned, but Franz says the vehicle could do well on the coasts and Opel still has a "good reputation" in the United States despite their decades-long absence.

Opel has already returned to the US with Buick. This new Chevy/Suzuki looking thing could be sold under any GM label, except Cadillac.

I believe the article talks about selling the new baby Opel in the US and then it says GM will not approve the move because of the Opel Buick relation. But Buick does not have a baby Opel under its brand, it only has the Insignia so where is the problem?

I can see potential in Opel returning to the States, particularly with their smaller, sportier models. There are those for whom the Buick nameplate will always be an old man's car. I think the Regal Turbo is smart looking, but still refer to it as the Buick Pacemaker.

So GM closes two brands and Opel thinks that it will sell cars under it's own name plate? These guys are not team players.

A possible course of action based on a throwaway comment of a board member of the junior company is nothing to get wound up about.
As above, a junior Buick is more likely.
