Heavily based on the Audi Q5

New details are starting to emerge about the highly-anticipated Porsche Cajun.

According to Car and Driver, the crossover will be heavily based on the Audi Q5 and feature a revised suspension, beefier brakes and Quattro all-wheel drive.

Engine options remain a bit of mystery, but candidates include a 2.0-liter TFSI with 220 hp (164 kW / 223 PS) as well as a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 with 300 hp (224 kW / 304 PS) and 350 hp (261 kW / 355 PS). On the diesel side, we can expect a 2.0-liter TDI with 200 hp (149 kW / 203 PS) as well as a 3.0-liter V6 TDI with 250 hp (186 kW / 253 PS) and 310 hp (231 kW / 314 PS). A hybrid is also expected and it will likely feature a 208 hp (155 kW / 211 PS) 2.0-liter TFSI petrol engine that is paired to a 44 hp (33 kW / 45 PS) electric motor for a combined output of 241 hp (180 kW / 245 PS) and 354 lb-ft (480 Nm) of torque.

Despite all the similarities to the Q5, the Cajun will reportedly have aggressive exterior styling, a possible three-door variant, and an interior that draws inspiration from the Cayenne and Panamera.

Regardless of the final details, the crossover will be built in Leipzig, Germany and could be launched as soon as 2013.

Porsche builds these vehicles because that's what people buy! Let us not forget that Porsche is a business. They are in the business of selling as much of their product as is possible. As your business grows, it is only natural to branch out into new segments as there is certainly a cap as to how many people are going to buy 911's and Caymans. I love WCF, but it gets tiring reading all of the comments from the peanut gallery who are not and probably never will be Porsche customers.

if porsche sticks to building sports cars they'll be out of business in no time. there's a reason why they build the cayenne and panamera: those models are volume sellers and money made from them eventually funnels down to r&d on their sports cars.

Dear Porsche, Looks like you have another winner, beatifully inspired by the Cayenne and Panamera. This is the way forward! Can't wait to drive it! P.S. When will you drop the Boxter from your line-up? It's just too damn ugly!
