Nissan Altima Hybrid gets axed
Dropped because it used Toyota technology
Nissan has quietly killed the Altima Hybrid.
While it seems odd to axe the model when fuel prices are near all-time highs, consumer interest has been trepid to say the least. In the United States, Nissan only managed to sell 35,000 Altima Hybrids since 2007. That's not too bad, considering the model was only available in seven states, but there's another reason why the fuel-efficient variant was killed.
The car used Toyota hybrid technology which will eventually be replaced by Nissan's own hybrid system which recently debuted on the Infiniti M35h. According to Mark Perry, the director of product planning at Nissan North America, the Infiniti's system will soon spread to additional models "...where it makes sense."

Nissan should just restyle the damn thing already, but instead they kill a model that has been killed for quite sometime, just officially announcing it lol. get rid of the damn CVT's, no one likes them, get rid of the terrible style, no one likes them, get rid of the horrible interiors and orange lighting, no one likes them. Nissan should just redo the entire lineup, except maybe the Maxima, and the 370z, but everything else, especially the brand spankin new 2012 versa coming out has to be completely redone ALREADY. bad bad nissan, go make some more 300zx's (and 300zx turbos) and then we'll talk.

Smart move. That segment is entirely dominated by the prius. Putting a hybrid engine into an existing model won't work, and hasn't worked. It didn't work for Honda's Civic, not even for Toyota with the hybrid camry.
@V-TEC, the article is just talking about the hybrid Altima, not the entire model range.

@wbizarre, i know, but the altima always gets me angry. my reasons are the one's i stated already. my arguments with 1 nissan spreads throughout the entire lineup apparently.

This car is ugly and doesn't even come close to it's competitors . The gas car was bad to begin with so what made Nissan think taking a car that can't match it's competitors and putting a prius drivetrain in it would make it any better !
