Volkswagen of America has unveiled its new pre-order program and put up its first offering - the 2012 VW Beetle Black Turbo edition.

The Black Turbo comes with a 2.0 liter TFSI turbocharged unit with 200 bhp (149 kW / 203 PS) and 280 Nm (207 lb-ft) of torque coupled to the DSG gearbox. Special features include the 18-inch alloy wheels with red calipers, rear spoiler, fog lights and a black finish for the exterior. On the inside is a three-color ambient lighting, sport cloth seat upholstery and an extra "kaeferfach" glovebox similar to that of the original Beetle.

A down-payment of $495 is required for the pre-order which goes towards the purchase price of $24,950.

Oh blah blah blah, again with the chick car stuff? Its not nearly as feminine as the last gen (in pics anyway) and now it has the performance to match its less girly looks. I personally like it and wouldn't blame anyone, even a lumberjack, for wanting to buy one.

It should me mid-high trim, but I can't understand why the knobs come from lower model and not with alumunium like found in Passat. Is the red lip around speaker copying Kia (I forget the name but it's the boxy hatch one) and will it be flashing too?

Still a very feminine car even with out the flower vase. I'm very surprised they have come out with an updated version of this car, the previous model was not reliable.

There must have been a lot of women buying cars over the years because the original beetle was the most popular car of all time. This is definitely not a chick car. Very cool car.

this one looks great , i hope they make an R version with AWD. VW should enter WRC with a Beetle instead of a Polo.

i must admit, VW is taking this Beetle through a masculine rebirth and gotta say it's a hell of a lot better in every, way, shape, and form than the last generation. and now it will have GTI type power, very very nice
