2013 Ford Shelby GT500 spied at the N?rburgring
Hints at performance gains
With the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 slated to hit dealerships early next year, Ford is developing a revised Shelby GT500 to fend off the newcomer.
Caught undergoing testing at the Nürburgring, the prototype features a massive intercooler which implies the car will receive a performance boost. Nothing is official, but previous reports have indicated the car will adopt a new supercharged 5.8-liter V8 engine with up to 620 hp (462 kW / 629 PS). If this is correct, the 2013 Shelby GT500 will have 70 hp (52 kW / 71 PS) more than the current model.
Additional information is limited, but there doesn't appear to be any major styling changes. However, that could change by the time the model is introduced sometime next year.

k. 620 hp is great. from the cornering pics it seems front heavy doesn't it? why don't these american muscle companies try and reduce weight instead? lightness = better handling and you won't NEED that extra power to haul this thing around. legit though, 620 stang is serious

Could it be effective downforce from that new front air dam? Ford already makes a Mustang called the BOSS 302 that is 100lbs lighter than an M3 Coupe... it also handles just as well, while having more power and better fuel economy. Oh yeah, it costs $20K less.
The only legit argument that the Germans and Japanese have on the Americans is refinement... and for the record, that doesn't = reliability.

NEED SOME JAPANESE TECHNOLOGY IN THIS THING__ IT HAS TOO MUCH WEIGHT...reducing the extra weight will definitely make it faster in corner/

Last I checked, the GTR weighed more than a GT500. Please expand on this so-called "Japanese Technology"?
