Facelifted Chevrolet Impala gets a new 3.6 liter DOHC V6 power plant and a new mesh grille

These images of the upcoming 2012 Chevrolet Impala were taken from the GM Car & Truck Guide found on the GM Fleet website.

Details are still few but the facelifted Impala gets a new 3.6 liter DOHC V6 engine that is (E85) Flex-Fuel capable. No output details were published in the guide, but since the current 2011 Impala comes with a 3.5 liter OHV unit with 211 bhp (157 kW / 214 PS) and 216 lb-ft (293 Nm) of torque, there may be a modest power boost.

Transmission will be a six-speed automatic and the new Impala gets that cool mesh grille too.

The real upgrade will likely come with the next-generation Impala due in 2014.

Some of you people are way off the mark. I have a 2008 Impala with 81k miles. Flawless, fast, economical (31.5 hwy). Ugly...Line a 2011 Impala up in a group with a bunch of other 4 door sedans and they all look the same basically. The 2005-2011 Impalas are the same sheet metal, so it isn't that old. For around $21k you can't beat it and it holds 6 adults with the front bench. Some of you need to think before you speak and remember opinions are just that. I am 67 but once was 25 and drove a '69 Road Runner..Everything is relative...

I like it, I hate that it's had the same styling for so long. But it's a good reliable, fuel efficient, comfortable car. If they just put some of the styling efforts into this, that they've been putting into their other cars it would be great.

These vehicles litter the ghettos, the corporate vehicle fleets, and the municipal motorpools of America. All because they are cheap. They don't need to be reliable or dependable, fancy or powerful, as long as they are cheap and disposable. Thank you government motors.

Oh don't forget, they sufficiently accomodate 21" rims and have a large trunk for shitty subs from Walmart.

I swear this is an embarrassment to the older school RWD impalas. I'm 100% positive I could design a better one for like 30$.

Chevy comes out with all this Flex fuel stuff but where do you buy it? It must be located near the hydrogen fueling stations. Flex fuel must be some tax loop hole for Chevy

Well, it would have been the right look ...if we were still stuck in the 90's (what a shocking resemblance to a 90's Toyota Camry). But to be fair, it's marketed towards a certain 'type' of customer who want exactly what you see; an ultra conservative car with no performance features or sportiness. And guess what? They'll probably sale a bunch of them. Still, who ever cooked this up must have been a baker in their previous job because the 2012 Impala represents what cookie cutter designs are.

People really buy this over there? wow! The update consists in a mesh grille? wow! Why do we (europeans) spend so much money in facelifted models when we can just go to a DIY store to get some mesh? God, are we stupid!

if people keep on buying these cars, GM has a right to produce. This is how the system works.
