BMW 1-Series M will be limited to a one-year run
Report says that production of the 1-Series M Coupe will end in December
Even with ever more performance division products being produced, BMW still wants to keep the M-brand special.
But the news that the 1-Series M Coupe will be limited to a one-year production run is still surprising, given the volume appeal of the M division's cheapest model yet.
According to a report by TheDetroitBureau.com, BMW's U.S. M brand manager, Matt Russell, says the 1-Series M "will be a one-year car," and production is slated to end this December.
Perhaps this is BMW trying to maintain the exclusivity of the M badge. Or maybe the 1-Series M wasn't as profitable as they had hoped it would be.

With dealers across the country getting 10k over sticker for the car, I seriously doubt it is a matter of profitability. Still, sad news for anyone looking to get one, good news for anyone lucky enough to have.

We have sold out in Australia. we had 8 spots to order for each dealer and now we have one left due to a finance fall over. It is also illegal to sell a car above RRP. Once a manufacturer has set a recommended retail price, the delears can not add to the price but only subtract.

Don't worry, a couple of years from now we'll have the new 1 series M coupe hitting the show rooms for another limited run. They'll increase the price in the same way the next M3 will cost more.
And dealers can't add to the RRP, otherwise they'd be doing that with all their cars; limiting supply to a trickle of a few cars and increasing the RRP to match demand. They're probably selling these coupes through trusted third parties and pocketing a share of the profits.

It probably has more to do with the all-new 1's release being imminent. That would, in a way, effect profitability and they'd keep production up on an old model only to produce its most expensive variation. The M.
I paid sticker for mine here in Cali. Its Alpine White and looks a little like an egg, a really fast egg.

I'm turning green with envy! I wanted one so badly, but the local dealers are charging 10k over, and they claim to be getting calls from other dealers (who weren't awarded allocation) for 5k over sticker so they can sell them for 15k over! It will be interesting to see if the all-new 1 comes here next year, as the US only got the 1er as a 2008, a full four years after the rest of the world was introduced to it. BMW typically keeps with their 7 year design cycle, so I have a hard time seeing them bring the complete redesign a year after they refreshed the US cars...

Maybe it was only meant to be a final limited edition for the 1-series. The question now is, was it only a limited edition or will BMW reintroduce it in the new 1-series lineup?

Great, for those who bought one since they will not face the same depreciation as other cars.
