VW dealer shows you tough Golf...doors [video]

VW showroom salesman stands on door of VW Golf GTI to show you how well the car is made

Here's a video by Larry Roesch VW, a Chicago-area Volkswagen dealer, where the toughness of the VW build quality gets tested.

The man in the video stands and stomps on the door of the Golf GTI in the showroom to show how solid the hinges are. He challenges us to try the same thing on our Hyundai or Honda. Well, we would hope they'd hold up the same.

But VW has a poor reputation in North America for dealer service, not for quality. Maybe they should make a video where a VW customer comes in with a problem and the dealer solves it right away at no cost.

They need to invest a lot in training for their dealers. In some cases, they need to clean house. It's as if they have contempt for their customers.

Ive got nothing against VW, I own one, but I would have loved to see that door fall off and to see the guy go flying. What exactly was the point? The door can hold a 100kg gorilla? Thx, It will be useful to know that next time I go to the jungle and let a gorilla play with my doors, that they will be fine ;/

This is standard VW sales person practice. I am a big VW fan, have owned many, and my first was a 2001.5 VW Passat. This was the trick that sold me the car, and boy was it solid or what. Felt safe like you were sitting inside a fort, loved it, graduated to Tuareg then, and later moved to Audis and BMWs, and now Mercedeses, still have a GTI.

Perhaps so. But if you were to put it in a PR perspective, it goes to show that US VW dealers are an abusive (and rude) lot which ironically, is what makes most would-be VW car buyers shun the brand. It is customer service.

I duno about Hyundai and Honda but I work for a Toyota store and we do that to the cars all the time. The hinges on all the cars are made to be able to hold up to 350 pounds. PS I own a 2009 Jetta and you can tottaly do that to the doors, the car is SOLID. VW is a great car.

They hung a 190E from an SL's A-pillar in one advertisement. Was some years ago though.

They might be tough doors, but my God do they rattle and squeak. My drivers door drives me insane. Dealers fix - apply silicone. Result? rattle and squeaks..

The problem with VW's was not the dealers it was the reliability of the cars. The replacement parts were ridiculously expensive. The same goes for the purchase price.
