2014 VW Passat could spawn coupe & convertible variants - report
Would slot below the Audi A5
With Volkswagen aiming to become the world's largest automaker by 2018, it's clear the company will have to expand their product lineup.
We've already reported about several models under consideration, but a new report is indicating the next-generation Passat (Euro-spec) could spawn coupe and convertible variants. Details are vague, but the models - if approved - would slot below the Audi A5 and compete with the upcoming Opel Calibra.
We're taking everything with a grain of salt, but the redesigned Passat is due in 2014 and should be larger and more luxurious than the current model.

I'm confused, isn't the 2011 model meant to be all-new with just the same look?

It's in the name... Best selling VWs? Beatle and Golf and Polo. Worst selling VWs? Passat and Pheaton? What's that? Next VW should be called Ping pong and there'll be riots for this car LOL!!!

Passat is not a failure and it is sold well and mostly has more juices than other competitors due to all turbocharged petrol engine. But the name really makes it appart from the most found and currently sold VW, golf. Probably "Tennis" or "Squash" new name is not a bad idea either

Isn't the coupe/cabrio part of the current-gen model lineup? Didn't the New Concept Coupe (NCC) offical reveal at the 2010 Detroit auto show make a strong business case?(Read more: http://www.worldcarfans.com/110011123910/vw-new-compact-coupe-concept-unveiled-for-detroit-debut#ixzz1MrQgG7qw)
