Audi A9 coupe coming in 2014 - report
Convertible also rumored
Audi's quest for world domination is continuing as a new report is indicating the A9 coupe could be launched as soon as 2014.
Although unconfirmed, Car Magazine says the range-topping model would be based on the A8 and built alongside the R8 at the company's factory in Neckarsulm, Germany. Furthermore, with the redesigned Mercedes S-Class set to spawn a convertible variant, an A9 cabriolet could be in the cards for 2015.
Engine options are highly speculative, considering the model hasn't been green-lighted yet, but Car is reporting choices could include everything from a 211 PS (155 kW / 208 hp) 3.0-liter V6 to a 520 PS (382 kW / 513 hp) 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 in the S9.

They are just trying to compete with everyone at the same time. Now when the sales do not match output, they will start adjusting to the market.

Audi needs to re-consider this LED designs across their cars lately; seems awful cheesy and tasteless in my view.

I'm assuming the same thing, but Car lists the engine as a "3.0 V6 TFSI"

I hate how all the german brands are expanding their lineup at the same rate as the universe. I blame all of this on the BMW X3 since that was probably the first vehicle that was made that wasn't needed.

This is going to be one big mutha. Hope it holds its value better than MB's CL coupe. Bizarrely this'll probably cost more than an R8.

Considering Merc has a zillion classes that some fools buy (R class= HEARSE!!!) we can only get sick with more nich? models from everyone else. Sad sad motor industry... :(

And the crap thing is we want the R4 not another 5 door hatchback with a low roof!
May 17, 2011 5:32 pm
You're so right!!! It would've been A DIFFERENT LOOKING AUDI for a change...

At least they ran out of numbers so we shouldn't see anymore "niche" cars coming out anytime soon, god help us if they start going for two digit names...
May 17, 2011 7:39 pm
then is the Q sector... :P until the fulfil that "sector" they will come up with Audi 100 103 105 109 to fulfil a niche where a couple has one child and one dog...

i wouldn't be surprised this would be a basis for an entry level Bentley coupe or even a backup if they decide to build the lamborghini estoque. i mean, do you think MB CL owners would want an A8 size coupe instead?

So the A9 is to battle the CL? CL is a cool coupe and it is the best car in its class. I even prefer CL63 over Bentley CGT. Can any body edit the A8 in a photoshop and remove the rear doors please?

What exactly is wrong with being offered more choice in life? Car ranges inclusive.

They are losing brand identity. The bulk of the average consumer will have no idea what the differences are. Plus, their product expansion seems to be a reaction to the market, rather than proactively creating the market.

Audi are a stronger brand and in a stronger market position globally than they have ever been.
May 18, 2011 7:09 am
Imo contrary to other people opinions, I found it interesting. Audi probably wanted to create a premium two-door luxury barge to compete established ultra-lux cars such as the Bentley CGT or future Mulsanne coupe, Rolls-Royce Phantom coupe/drophead and Maybach-Xenatech coupe.

Swimming against the current of people who just don't want to see this company succeed, I don't see the issue with the development of the A9. They should do anything they like so long as they do it well. They have strong brand identity and market growth which would suggest their timing is right. There is absolutely no loss of brand identity here, quite the opposite. This is likely going to be their design & technology showcase. And bring on the led's.

211 PS? Never! Even the A8?s smallest petrol engine has a 290 PS 6-cylinder. I think the A9 will only get 8-, 10 and 12-cylinder engines.
