Renault Twizy pricing released

 Renault Twizy pricing released
Renault Twizy production version 01.10.2010

Starts at ?6,990

Renault has announced the Twizy will be priced from €6,990 when it goes on sale later this year.

While that sounds reasonable enough, the entry-level model only has a 5 hp (4 kW / 5 PS) electric motor and a top speed of 45 km/h (28 mph). Furthermore, the battery isn't included and must be leased for €45 a month.

On the other hand, the mainstream model starts at €7,690 (with a €49/month battery lease) and features a 17 hp (13 kW / 17 PS) electric motor that allows the car top out at 80 km/h (50 mph).

Regardless of what variant is selected, both are powered by a lithium-ion battery which enables the Twizy to travel up to 100 km (62 miles) on a single charge. When the battery is depleted, it can be fully-recharged in approximately 3.5 hours.

Renault Twizy 45: affordable mobility, with tax-paid prices starting from €6,990*.

The speed of this version is capped at 45kph, which means it can be driven without a licence in certain countries. Twizy makes city motoring easier and safe:

  • Twizy gets around town faster than a car thanks to its unprecedented ultra-compact dimensions which also facilitate parking.
  • It offers up to two occupants -sitting in tandem, one behind the other - greater safety compared with a two-wheeled vehicle, thanks notably to an extensive list of active and passive safety features.

Twizy makes getting round town more enjoyable

  • It is more agile than a car, while its acceleration performance is comparable with that of a scooter.
  • Twizy's electric motor accelerates smoothly and silently, while torque is immediately available.
  • Its wraparound bodywork and side deflectors ensure enjoyable open-air motoring, protected from the elements and wind.

The no-fuss, practical all-electric vehicle

Twizy's battery fully charges in just 3½ hours using a domestic electrical supply via a spiral cable stowed behind a flap at the front of the vehicle.

Renault Twizy's low weight (450kg, including the 100kg battery) directly benefits its operationalrangewhich is 100km (standard cycle). In everyday use, this figure may vary as a function of the driving conditions actually encountered.

Accessories for the Twizy lifestyle

  • A semi-rigid all-purpose bag holding 50 litres.
  • Extra protection against bad weather and the cold .
  • A Parrot audio kit including Bluetooth connectivity, plus a USB connector, a jack socket and an Apple connector.
  • Rear parking sensors.

A range of customisation accessories (coloured wheels, decals)will allow owners to personalise their vehicle.

I like this car... and I think this is the future, but this price IMO isn't much of an incentive for possible buyers... add 2000 euros and you'll get a low consumption car with an engine of 60 - 70PS, but with 4 seats, enough luggage space and more... this one... I don't think will be too successful without the intervention of the state (price or insurance incentives, etc, etc)...

Will it also be available in Pounds? I'm not keen on those bath-plug wheels, but the scissor-blade doors on a city car are a nice touch.

@ Decypha: And if you get hit by a car that's doing let's say a 100km/h? :-)

Think you would hardly get that average when driving in suburbs near to CBD and 80km/h is alright as you would save much more money from speed camera fine. Insurance should be cheap as the plastic bumper looks dodgy and easy to repair
