Dodge Caliber Mopar Edition announced for South Africa

Dodge Caliber Mopar Edition announced for South Africa
Dodge Caliber Mopar Edition - South Africa 13.05.2011

Minor tweaks, modest results

The Dodge Caliber isn't the most appealing model in the company's lineup, but that hasn't stopped them from creating a Mopar special edition for South Africa.

Designed to "satisfy the boy racer in all of us," the hatchback is distinguished by a new hood, a lowered suspension and 18-inch alloy wheels.

Power is provided by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that has been equipped with a cold-air induction system and a dual exhaust. Specifications weren't released, but the standard engine produces 156 PS (115 kW / 154 hp) and 190 Nm (140 lb-ft) of torque.

Set to arrive at dealerships shortly, the Caliber Mopar Edition will be priced from R259,990 ($37,130 / €26,200).

Dodge Caliber Mopar Edition

Zwartkop, Pretoria - Chrysler South Africa launches a special edition of the popular Dodge Caliber - the Mopar Edition.

"Chrysler has identified with a specific market niche - a group of drivers that have a passion for performance hatchbacks. To address this need, we have delivered the racy Dodge Caliber Mopar Edition which we believe will go a long way to satisfy the ‘boy racer' in all of us.

The Mopar trademark is derived from the words Motor and Parts - is one of the most familiar in the automotive industry and is an unquestionable force in the world of performance parts. The essence of the "Mopoar" enthusiasm began with the production of the world famous Hemi engine, although it has a history stretching way, way back.

Mopar is associated with a dominant presence in both track and strip and its involvement in various racing formulas linked with Dodge in the US over the years, has proven it to be the purveyor of high-performance and qaulity engineered parts. Today, the Dodge Caliber Mopar Edition has the same Mopar DNA as found in the Dodge Challenger and Dodge Charger muscle cars" - Guy Franken, Group Head of Marketing and Corporate Affairs, Chrysler South Africa.

The Dodge Caliber 2.0 litre manual has performance parts from our Mopar range including:

  • Cold-air induction kit
  • Performance manifold and exhaust system
  • 18" black powder-coated alloy wheels
  • 2" lowering kit
  • Sporty bonnet and beltline decals
  • Mopar decals

The Dodge Caliber Mopar Edition is priced at R259 990.00 and will soon be available at participating Chrysler Jeep Dodge dealerships throughout South Africa.

"designed to "satisfy the boy racer in all of us"??? LOL with only 115kW you'd be hard pressed to pull the skin off a rice pudding with this weapon :-)

I've realised that a lot of people here buy cars on impulse and status...this car is outclassed by competition, looking at the engine alone, VW Group, PSA Peugeot-Citroen, Renault, BMW, FIAT, Opel all have smaller turbocharged engines that are both much more powerful and more frugal, even than the superior R/T which sits above this standard which the Mopar will be based on. Chrysler is one brand we could better off without.

If dodge are promoting "the boy racer in all of us".......the this will need at least 200+ kW! When I was in CPT/JHB on holiday a few years back that was a minimum requirement kW to even go "robot to robot"!

Good question Benzboy.I stay in south africa and this car is mostly driven by people in their late 30s... and are mostly female. I bet most of the people who drive this have never heard of Mopar.

If people thought about performance when they bought a caliber they would of kept the SRT-4 alive.
