Mercedes give us an AMG history lesson [video]

A look back at a legend

Mercedes has released a new video that highlights the history of AMG.

While the clip doesn't go in depth, the company was founded in 1967 by Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher. They were primarily focused on building racing engines, but would eventually offer performance upgrades for the consumer market.

By 1988, AMG had become fairly well-known and they officially teamed with Mercedes' motor sports division. This would pave the way for the two companies to sign an agreement to develop production models like the 1993 C36 AMG.

In 1999, Mercedes acquired a majority stake in AMG and renamed the company Mercedes-AMG GmbH. The rest, they say, is history.

I'd imagine it would be a couple of minutes of Quattros rallying around some dirt track, then some Le Mans footage and that's about it. I have an Audi. I respect AMG far, far more than anything Audi can produce. Saying that, I wouldn't turn an R8 down.

Even though I am an M GMBH fan, AMG is German muscle at its best.

You can either be a MB, Audi or BMW fan; you'll in any case like special kind of cars, among the best ones in my opinion. But for this video there is just one word: RESPECT. Hi to all cars fanatics all around the world.

I think i underestimated how good the product was until i started working for the MB,what these vehicles are and what they stand for is top end engineering and world class engines, this is what makes it an unbeatable combination.

I guess you can call our family a fan of the brand. Collectively we've owned 8 since 1988...with a stint to BMW and Audi (one of each) in between...but it's just not the same. Like other's have already said...RESPECT. P.S. They make great cars...but they don't have the best proof-readers! Misspelling found in the video!
