Facelifted 7-Series will feature a new set of headlights including an LED strip indicator

The 7-Series is already three years old and BMW is working on a facelift for the 2012 model which we've spied here.

This is one of the first prototypes of the new 7er that's been spotted and we can see that BMW is working on a new set of lights since the headlamps here are taped over. We expect the lights to be similar to the ones seen on current next-generation 1-Series and 3-Series prototypes. But we can still spot the new LED strip indicator lights in the headlamps.

But even a facelifted 7-Series won't be able to rest easy in a segment where Mercedes-Benz will be introducing a next-generation S-Class in 2013.

I'm really getting over this facelift nonsense. A car comes our, you buy it after doing your research on it which takes a while and a few months later there is a facelift. I want to buy a car and have it for 4 years before the word facelift or new model is even uttered.

Then buy when it's just launched. For me, personally I would prefer to buy the run-out model with up to 20k cut price. If you would want the new bumper, BMW sold it at approx. 5-8k. Only new engine & gearbox can't be updated together with interior, but suspension setting can be adjusted in your BMW garage.

You do realize that most 2011 BMW halo rings are the corona headlight ring, which is an LED. You better get used to it pal LEDS are the future, more efficient, brighter, with less harm to the human eye, quicker response, etc etc etc etc.

One thing I may sure for the facelifted version, bigger smile. Yeah, all facelifted BMW inherited "smiling" air dam (look on 5, 3, last gen Z4, last gen 7, last gen 6). Also we can expect, better standard equipments (and thus better value which can counter attack new S-class if targeting emerging market where buyers prefer value of money but still with badge), refined engine-more efficient-start&stop, new wheels option and updated 750i with 420hp (I also hope 740i gets power boost into 340hp over current 320hp).

The 7series will still own the next gen S-class. Daimler totally struggles in a lag of good marketing, because they are too much focused on their big anniversary-thingy. Hope the bimmer gets these new angeleyes as on the vision EV and next 3-series. They kick azz

But this car has much better proportion and I like it, one element I like from Bangle design on last gen 7 is the frontal look before facelifted and facelifted new tail light. Anyway, 7 has its own market because being rather difference can be a luxury too (got bored when most cars parked are S-Class and some LX and LS) and at least 7 is a good car but not all people taste. And back a decade ago, BMW also applied one master design and only little difference on size and details (including headlamp). Still the new 3, looks good on me (though still camouflage) and has better character design than current one (doggy looks).

Its gonna get the lights from the new 6, duh... A juggling of the options will ensue, with some of the basic equipment (that most dealers ordered) coming standard now and the interior/exterior color choices that weren't often selected being dropped in favor of new shades of the same color. Mechanically, they will be replacing anything that commonly broke with a stronger item and anything they expected to break (that didnt) with a weaker (cheaper) one to decrease warranty claims and build costs. The Germans have been taking part in this update thing for over a decade now. Its pretty easy to tell whats coming next.

I can't get excited about the current 7 or this facelifted rendition. I don't think a 7 series gets anything more than an initial glance. Aside from being a competitve segment the reality is that there are a hand full of superior alternatives to consider. It has become a shadow of it's former self.

Boring with a capital B but I guess this is probably because I am not their target business / retiree demographic. I have been checking out the gas mileage of the range, a tad thirsty: http://www.fueleconomysearch.com/search-by-manufacturer/2011/BMW
