Cadillac planning new soft-top convertible to battle the A5

Cadillac planning new soft-top convertible to battle the A5
2009 Cadillac XLR Roadster

New convertible Cadillac will share a platform with the upcoming 2013 ATS as well as the next-generation CTS

Cadillac is going to try it again.

After canceling the XLR back during the worst of its woeful days in 2009, Cadillac is developing a new soft-top convertible that will rival the likes of the Audi A5 cabriolet.

The new model will be built on the upcoming Alpha platform, one that will also underpin the 2013 ATS and the next-generation CTS, and will be slotted between those models in the product lineup.

But the model will be its own vehicle an won't just be a convertible variant of the upcoming ATS (a compact sedan).

Cadillac promises to price the new convertible competitively, probably even cheaply and undercut the competition on that front.

The model will go up against other soft-top rivals such as the aforementioned Audi A5 cabriolet, as well as the E-Class convertible from Mercedes-Benz. Other competitors are hard-top folding-roof jobs like the BMW 3-Series cabrio and the Lexus IS.

Engines possibilities are wide open, from turbocharged four-cylinder to V6 and V8 units.

The new Cadillac convertible model will likely debut sometime in 2013, marked as a 2014 model-year.

Improve it, but keep it priced well below Lexus and it will sell pretty good in OZ after recently there is no decent cabriolet with gutty engines, roomy with touch of luxury below 80k (there used to be Saab, but it isn't any good/longer available, so is lazy C70 and unrefined 370Z). Anyway, before heading for A5, Cadillac has better to prepare itself for Infinity G370 and IS250 CC, both are more realistic to beat.

 GRAVE GRAVE
It will never battle E class coupe or A5, it may battle against Infiniti G37 coupe which is a very nice car

The Car and Driver source is WRONG. As a member of the Cadillac R&D Team, the car will be an ATS Convertible based on the ATS. What's new is that we have decided to change the Cadillac nomenclature. The ATS Coupe (ATC) will not be a rival to the Audi A5 at all. For instance, The range will include the ATS (Sedan), and the ATC (coupe & Convertible variant). The CTS (sedan) and the next CTS Coupe will become the ETC. No convertible version will be available, but its a beautiful design with a real functional panaormanic roof. I posted the future product range the other day on here: http://www.worldcarfans.com/111042732949/cadillac-planning-a-rolls-royce-competitor Who in the hell is giving out this incorrect information?

And the XLR is returning in a few years on the C7 Corvette platform. But it will not be a convertible.

@ Sammy, then that would be correct. There will be no convertible of the next XLR, like I stated above.
