Opel / Vauxhall Astra GTC revealed [video]

Will likely feature 290 PS (213 kW / 286 hp)

Opel has released the first pictures of the Astra GTC, ahead of its debut on June 7th.

While the company is staying mum on specifics, the car draws inspiration from the GTC Paris Concept which was unveiled late last year. Sadly, the production model loses the aggressive front fascia, LED fog lights and dual exhaust system.

Under the hood, power will likely be provided by a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that produces 290 PS (213 kW / 286 hp). It will be connected to a six-speed manual transmission which sends power to the front wheels via a limited slip differential.

Lastly, the GTC will also be equipped with an advanced FlexRide suspension that features a compound crank rear axle and a Watt's link.

Virtually here: The new Opel Astra GTC will get real on June 7, 2011

Opel announces production version of stunning GTC Paris Concept

These first images of the new generation Opel Astra GTC may show it in a virtual landscape, but as it races down an imaginary road, real test cars are now running final validation drives: The Astra GTC is officially a production reality.

And on June 7 - in just six weeks' time - Opel will reveal full details about the Astra GTC to coincide with its order books opening. Pricing, technology, equipment and powertrains will be laid bare, giving customers the chance to specify their ideal model and place an order early. The first production version of the new Opel Astra GTC will then receive its world premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show, on September 15, 2011.

Based on last year's Opel GTC Paris concept car presented early October 2010 at the Mondial de l'Automobile, the production Astra GTC will be a 5-seater, 3-door sporty compact car with dramatic proportions. It will feature the very best of Opel's latest technology, as well as unique chassis features.

What a shame that in Australia Holden ditched Opel for Daewoo for their cars. Damn I wish we had Opel/Vauxhall back :-(

loved the previous generation as I own one, and will love this one... only one problem... again too much power on the front wheels, for the OPC version, which is the same issue as for the previous one (huge torque steering, and also being all over the place when cornering)... or did they learned something from the past?... we'll see... anyway, love it

For being "only" a GTC, this car's a beautiful piece of work. The real OPC will be exactly like the Paris GTC Concept car...

Not bad, but it looks very restrained for a car with 300bhp. Vauxhall should take styling ideas from other cars in its class (Focus RS, Impreza WRX STI etc.)

Thats because this is not the OPC/VXR spec model as the article suggests, it is a mid-range three-door sporthatch variant of the astra, no doubt the real OPC/VXR will be much more aggressive looking and will be unvieled a few months down the line

I have a suspicion that the GTC in itself will be the actual OPC/VXR, I have to agree with you N20_Purge, the cosmetics on this car say it's under 160 kW in power, not to say the 213 kW is false but I think it will be for the OPC/VXR which will look identical to the GTC Paris when it comes out ....but still it looks beatifull!

No it won't. Look at the previous generation. GTC was the name for all 3-door "sportish" looking Astras, including those with 1.4 liter, 90 PS engine and no aluminum wheels. At the top was the GTC OPC, styled more aggressively and featuring 240 PS engine. The one you see above is a normal GTC, engine options will be most likely exactly the same as 5 door hatch (100-180 PS). As a cherry on the pie there will be, soon after GTC, the GTC OPC with mentioned 290 PS rocket under the hood. Again - Look at the concept, Astra H GTC OPC was 99% the same as concept that previewed the GTC. Same thing will be here. GTC looks calmer then concept, so expect GTC OPC to look exactly as the concept did.
