Fiat Freemont in new promo vid [video]

Fiat Freemont is a re-badged Dodge Journey and goes on sale in Italy at the end of May

They say Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne is a very talented man. And he's done a lot to turn Fiat around over the last decade. But someone may need to refresh his memory on the term 'badge engineering' and the very ugly mess the tactic made of GM.

This is a video for the upcoming 2011 Fiat Freemont, which is a re-badged Dodge Journey.

And it looks exactly like Dodge. It looks like a Dodge with a Fiat badge.

The Detroit-design, Mexican-made, Fiat Freemont will be offered with some European tech, though. That would be the 2.0-liter MultiJet diesel engine with 142 PS (104 kW / 140 bhp). A 172 PS (127 kW / 170 bhp) variant of that unit will follow too with an all-wheel drive Freemont. Fiat will also offer Chrysler's 3.6-liter V6 petrol with 280 PS (206 kW / 276 bhp).

The Fiat Freemont goes on sale in Italy at the end of May.

Going as far as doing a small "facelift" to make it look more of a fiat was to hard, huh?

Nothing wrong with badge engineering if you know your market and keep the badge engineered clones in different markets or have a very strong brand differentiation (like VW, Skoda, SEAT, Audi). Trouble with GM (Ford/Mercury/Lincoln and Chrysler/Dodge) was that they were trying to sell the same badge engineered product in the same market to same customers in the same price range and hoping to realize sales worthy of different products.

Exactly! This will not be sold across the street from the Dodge version like the clones of GM, instead it will be sold across the big ass pond called the Atlantic. I don't see the problem here really.

not enough time to redesign this... crap. Shame, because the idea is not that bad.
