Mercedes A-Class coming to America - report
The baby Benz
The Mercedes A-Class has always been forbidden fruit in North America, but a new report is indicating that could soon be changing.
While nothing is official, Car & Driver is reporting the three-door hatchback will be offered alongside the redesigned B-Class, BLS sedan, and BLK/GLC crossover.
Engine options remain a bit of a mystery, but likely candidates include the new turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 210 PS (207 hp / 155 kW) as well as the 3.5-liter V6 with 306 PS (301 hp / 225 kW).
No word on timing, but C&D says the crossover will be the first MFA-based vehicle in the United States.

they can keep it. Personally I think Merc has enough models in the US, they can't please everybody and still have prestiage. I guess the A is ok, only if they class it up, and make it into a real car and not like the past models have been, but that's where it needs to stop. oh, and they can take back the R class too

It's not like Mercedes has a choice. While Bmw sells the 1 series and Audi sells the A1, Mercedes can't just sit around watching their competitors.

Mercedes-Benz will start to sell the A-class and B-class here in the USA for one reason: increasingly higher requirements for Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE). I expect the A-class to be a more specialized model, and the B-class to be M-B's new entry-level model.

I'm glad the US is finally winding down on big SUV trucks, and like Europe turning to smaller more eco-friendly cars. Was about time if you ask me.

There's nothing inherently wrong with big cars or right with small cars. It's all about fuel consumption. So I would say I'm glad the US market is shifting toward efficient cars, but I don't see what's particularly good about the shift to small cars per se.

Arent the A-class 5 doors mini cross overs? This one is going to be a hatchback coupe kinda like the hatchback C-coupe of yrs past? I saw this baby at the NY car show its beautiful but what spot is it trying to fill in the line up???

It's filling up the high profit "selling only loaded automatic/dual clutch versions in the US & Asia at a high price while the Europeans can also get low-spec diesel versions without sun-roof, it's really cheap to build but you wouldn't know it since its got panorama sun-roof entry level sub-compact class."
But the problem is MB doesn't have the luxury of platform sharing like VW does with the A1/Polo to make it even more profitable...so I wonder if they will team up with another manufacturer on the platforms (i.e. Smart 4/4 - Mitsubishi)
BTW...I want one if these to drive to work in.

This A Class looks good. Doesn't look like an A class at all! Looks long and low like a regular car. Not the tall, short, squat appearance of the current one.

Yeah, starts of as CLS at the front, changes into Z4 in the middle and megane at the back. and what's with the bls...? smaller cls. Merc growing a bit too big

Yet another foray downmarket by Mercedes-Benz. They are cashing in on their exclusivity & mystique to become just another volume seller. A pity to see a brand with all that history becoming a "common" vehicle like BMW, Acura & Lexus. What a shame.

Some people on this site seem to have nothing positive to say. I see the same few names on most articles berating either vehicle Manufacturers, designers or the people who run WorldCarFans.
It's starting to get boring

I am not berating the manufacturer because I still believe that they are the best engineered cars in the world. I'm speaking in the context of brand exclusivity.

this A class is much more better than the current one.the current A class is not a real mercedes i think this could be the successor

I have the current A Class. It is reliable & fun. Have enjoyed driving it, and it has never let me down. I like its proposed replacement, and I will buy it when the time comes. Hello MB, you are doing fine by your old customers.
