2012 Mercedes E63 AMG gets more power from new 5.5 liter bi-turbo V8

2012 Mercedes E63 AMG gets more power from new 5.5 liter bi-turbo V8
2010 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG

The available AMG Performance Package takes total output up to 557 PS (410 kW / 549 bhp)

Mercedes-Benz will be adding its 5.5 liter bi-turbo V8 to the 2012 E63 AMG with a performance package that take total output up to 557 PS (410 kW / 549 bhp).

In its standard configuration, the new power plant makes for 525 PS (386 kW / 518 bhp) - same as on the old 6.3 liter unit.

But this new engine is far more efficient than that large, naturally-aspirated 6.3 liter, shaving 2.8 liters/100 km off of its fuel-economy rating - now down to 9.8 liters/100 km for the 5.5 liter bi-turbo V8.

And with that new AMG performance package, the new E63 with 557 PS does the 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) sprint in just 4.2 seconds and has an electronically-limited top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph). The AMG Driver's Package gets that top speed bumped up to 300 km/h (186 mph) if you do your homework and take a driving class at the AMG Driving Academy.

The new 2012 E63 AMG is priced at €105,791 and €108,409 for the sedan and wagon variants, respectively, in Germany. The AMG Performance package costs €8307.

starting price of a super sedan used to be 70-80 grand. now mercedes upped it to 100 grand. i think this is a rip-off, especially with the "amg performance package"

"ease of use of the back". Both cars are 4 door sedans right, I dont see any differences in the "ease of use of the back". Maybe you've got the CLS63 (4 door Sedan) confused with the other 2 Door Coupes. Well I dont blame you...Mercedes has just got so many 2 door coupes... C Class Coupe, E Class Coupe, CLK, SLK, CL, SL, SLS......not that it's a bad thing of course...

I dont know how tall you are but as someone who is 6ft2 The CLS63 has a sloped roof on the back. In the current CLS for me in order to get in I have to sit down flop over and pull my legs, and reverse to get out. And no I didnt get confused about the models. The E class does not have a sloped roof.

What I dont get is put make this available in the E Class when the CLS63 is coming out in 2 months? I like both cars, but would buy the E over the CLS because of comfort and ease of use of the back seats.About spending a 100k or more this car and not being easily reconizable as an AMG.... Thats moot. People who know cars or care about them can tell from the get go.

Ye sure you don't want people to know you have an actual AMG when you spent $100.000 instead just E350 with a sport package. You must be nuts then. And if you need a SHORT distance to tell real AMG that means AMG are doing crappy job of tuning. An E60 M5 is much more massive looking than any 535i or 550i with any body kit and its an easy tell who is who.

if all you care is about what others think, then you can always paint a big "AMG" on the side of the car. with a very bright colour.that glows in the dark.

Beautiful car, should of been called E55 since it has a 5.5 liter motor. I Dont understand why Mercedes did that?? As long as it can beat the Cadillac CTS-V sedan im happy, im sure it wont be long before the Cadillac V model has the ZR1 motor in it....lol

If you can't tell the diff bw a regular Version and the m/amg version of it from a small distance your one among the common massess. This and the new m5 are what I want in my garage

I can tell the difference between the E63 and M5 very easily, its obvious..... the E63 has quad exhaust pipes, thats the easiest giveaway. The V10 M5 DOESN'T have fog lights at the front due to the extra vents needed for that engine, and theres side vents etc.... come on, its not hard to tell the difference.

The M5 does not look any more different from the regular 5 series than the E63 does from the regular Es.

It looks good but not $100.000 good. I saw quiet a few of new 63s and can hardly tell the difference between a E550 or E350 with an AMG package on it and an E63. If it was not for 6.3 logo It's almost impossible. And M5 does look like it means business at least the old one does.

Yes but you don't buy cars like this or the M5 if you really want to show people you've spent $100,000 on your car, you'd get an SL AMG or something instead

The most simple way to tell if a BMW is a M5 is... Its usually parked on top of a flat bed tow truck on its way to the repair shop.

Thats what most "normal" BMWs look like too, benzboy...

There are differences. MB doesn't put the same exact AMG body kit on "normal" cars with the sports package anymore. It may look similar, but there are differences. Brakes and exhaust are dead give-aways... But the most meaningful difference is the exhaust note on start-up! Pure heaven!

now this is a mans car, dont be moaning now about how its "bad" and how an M5 would rip it, who cares? not everything has to be taken to the tracks =-D
