2013 Dodge Viper teased
Launch slated for late 2012
Dodge is kicking off the weekend in speculator fashion by releasing the first teaser image of the 2013 Viper.
Seen here undergoing cold weather testing, the development mule is based on a 2010 model that has been equipped with stability control. Additional information is limited, but the car was created alongside the Mercedes SLS AMG so we have high hopes.
Styling will likely be as bold as ever as Dodge CEO Ralph Gilles has commented the vehicle would resemble a "naked woman on a beach." This is open to interpretation - not to mention sleazy jokes - but we're taking it to mean a massive grille, a long hood, and a double bubble roof.
Despite previous rumors that the car would feature a Ferrari-sourced engine, the Viper is expected to use a carryover 8.4-liter V10 that has been equipped with MultiAir technology. Nothing is official, but it's likely to produce more than 600 hp (450 kW / 608 PS) and 560 lb-ft (760 Nm) of torque.
Regardless of the final details, the production model is set to be launched in late 2012.
Next-Gen Dodge Viper Training For ‘Super Car Olympics'
The long, cold and snowy winter presented a perfect environment for the ultimate American-built sports car and icon of the Dodge brand's performance car lineup to prepare for its imminent return. Using a 2010 chassis as a test subject, SRT engineers expanded the development scope for the next generation Dodge Viper to include stability control tuning for the first time. The development comes just in time for the next "Super Car Olympics," sure to take place late in 2012 when the all-new performance icon returns.
